Upstream Project Coordinator

Manchester, United Kingdom Centrepoint Full time

As part of Centrepoint’s strategy to end youth homelessness, we are taking pioneering steps to help prevent young people aged 11-15 from becoming homeless after they turn 16.

Over 50 years’ experience of supporting homeless young people has shown us that the roots of young people’s problems begin long before they arrive at our door post-16. This is why we are increasing our focus on preventing youth homelessness at an early stage, by identifying and supporting young people before their problems escalate.

We are launching a new pilot service utilising the internationally developed Upstream survey which identifies risk factors for homelessness among young people at secondary schools. We will use the results to identify young people at risk, so we can offer the advice and support to stop their problems escalating to crisis point.

This exciting opportunity will enable you to play an integral part in shaping the delivery of this innovative project and ensure better outcomes for young people in future.

What you’ll be doing
- Working closely with our partner schools to support young people to complete the Upstream survey
- Conducting comprehensive needs assessments with young people flagged as at risk by the survey
- Based on these assessments, referring young people to support services such as family mediation and mental health support
- Providing young people with one to one mentoring support
- Regularly seeking feedback from young people and other stakeholders to help shape the ongoing design of the pilot
- Experience of assessing the needs of young people and creating personalised support packages
- Experience of carrying a caseload of young people and providing mentoring support on a one to one basis
- An understanding of different methods that can be employed to positively engage with young people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively across team and organisational boundaries, negotiating and building relationships with schools, local statutory services and the voluntary sector
- Ability to establish and deliver a new programme of work within a set timescale and on budget
- At Centrepoint we challenge the discrimination within society that contributes to youth homelessness, and we are just as committed to fairness and equality within Centrepoint itself. We are passionate about ensuring all of our colleagues are made to feel included in the work we do and that we value the rich diversity within the organization._
- Centrepoint’s policy is to recruit, employ and promote people on the basis of their suitability for the work to be performed, and to this end, our aim is to ensure that all applicants, employees and volunteers receive equal treatment._
