Clinical Fellow

Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals

Critical Care

1x Fixed Term (12Months)

MT03 - MT04 ( plus on-call allowance)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Critical Care Unit at Southport and Formby District General Hospital as a Clinical Fellow. The clinical duties of the post are within critical care unit and involve working on a full shift pattern, supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota. Previous experience in critical care and/or anaesthesia is desirable but not essential.

The appointee will participate in the non-anaesthetic resident rota, providing support to assess and managed critically ill patients who require high dependency (level 2) and/ or intensive (level 3) care. Although the duties will be principally based on the Southport site, the appointee will be expected to work across both sites and may occasionally, when required, be expected to travel between sites

1. Participate as a member of the team supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota on the critical care unit
2. Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity within the department
3. Support the department in making the most efficient use of the resources available, thus be prepared to work flexibly and deputise, if appropriate, for absent colleagues and undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies or unforeseen circumstances
4. Be available, exceptionally, for irregular commitments outside the normally rostered duties, which are essential for the safety and continuity of patient care.
5. Be familiar with and comply with the principles expected by the GMC, as outlined in “Good Medical Practice”. Thus, agree to maintain their professional responsibilities, including full and active participation in the trust appraisal process.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is a district general hospital, across 2 sites: Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. The Critical Care Unit is located at Southport and Formby District General Hospital.

The Critical Care Unit is based on the Southport and Formby District General Hospital site, providing Level 2 and 3 care for a general ICU population, as well as a Postoperative Critical Care Unit (POCCU). The unit is currently constituted as 18 critical care bed-spaces (funded to 11) which can be used flexibly. The department is actively engaged with the management of deterioration within the hospital and has critical care outreach over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
