Family Support Worker

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a skilful and dynamic Family Support Worker to join the Children with Additional Needs Support Project (CANS)
CANS provide support to families and children with a disability or additional needs relating to cognitive or physical impairment.
CANS is a Families First project delivered by Barnardo's and Newport City Council. The aim of service is to provide multi-agency, evidence-based interventions that integrate seamlessly for children, young people and their families.
**Service Aims**
- For parents / carers to feel more confident and equipped to meet the needs of their children.
- To provide support though a one to one and group delivery.
- For parents / carers to support their child/children to reach their full potential.
- To work in partnership with other services and organisations to develop a holistic plan of support for families.
- Provide support around diagnosis and transition.
- To support and enable disabled children and their families to access mainstream, specialist and community resources.
**What does the Job Role involve?**
- Utilising effective communication skills to engage children and families.
- Completing holistic assessments of need.
- Managing a case load.
- Supporting families in their homes and through a virtual delivery.
- Developing and implementing support plans.
- Supporting the delivery of groupwork programmes.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Celebrating achievements / successes.
- Establishing, developing and maintaining productive working relationships with colleagues and other agencies.
- Participating in team meetings, training, and supervision.
You will have:
- Experience of working with children and their families.
- Experience of keeping accurate records.
- Awareness of disabilities.
- Experience of supporting groupwork programmes.
- Knowledge and experience of safeguarding.
- An understanding of child development.
- An ability to communicate effectively.
- An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A good standard of computer literacy.
- An ability to follow the processes and procedures of the organisation.
- An ability to support families within their homes and though a virtual platform.
