The post includes an Honorary Consultant appointment at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where the post-holder will help deliver high quality infection care for the city of Liverpool, regional specialist care for the Northwest, and nationally recognised services in Tropical Medicine and High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID). You will also help develop existing services and exploit opportunities for innovation afforded by the recent formation of one of the largest acute trusts in the country and move to the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

You will provide research leadership in antimicrobial resistance, including line management of laboratory and research staff at LSTM and part of the role will include providing expert advice and support on clinical tropical and infectious diseases for the development and delivery of the postgraduate courses and clinical placements we offer.

This success has arisen from diverse fields including vector control, advancing clinical management in HIV and TB, HIV self-testing, evidence synthesis, snakebite, and advances in the control of malaria in pregnancy. Other key strengths in the Department of Clinical Sciences include menstrual, sexual, and reproductive health, sepsis, and the health of girls and young women.
- LSTM has long-standing partnership with the nearby Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT), which hosts the regional Tropical and Infectious Diseases Unit (TIDU)
- We run a pre-travel clinic, tropical outpatient clinic and an on-call advice service at LSTM
- Our largest non-UK partner, the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Clinical Research Programme (MLW) in Malawi has strong research record in clinical & experimental medicine, population health, vaccination implementation & impact, infection biology, maternal, neonatal & child health and social sciences
- Interventions and population research for malaria is focused in the KEMRI-CDC-LSTM collaboration in Kisumu, western Kenya
- We are a key partner in the African Research Collaboration on Sepsis, which aims to improve the survival and quality of life of sepsis patients through multidisciplinary applied health research
- We have research on antimicrobial resistance across the spectrum of translational research from genomics, to lab, to social science) and it is a strategic priority to build this portfolio at LSTM.

**Your role will include, but not be limited to**:
**Research**:

- Initiate, develop and deliver applied health research focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in underserved populations in both Low
- middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HIC), that is of global public health relevance
- Manage and support on-going applied health research focused on AMR in LMICs and HICs
- Contribute to the development, design and implementation of new research projects within the department.
- Work to ensure the strongest possible institutional submissions to external benchmarking associated with UK government funding, such as the Research Excellence Framework, Knowledge Exchange Framework and Teaching Excellence Framework

**Clinical Commitment**

As an Honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases the post-holder will be based in LUHFT with the majority of clinical work at Royal Liverpool University Hospital but clinical services will be required at Aintree and Broadgreen Hospital sites as required. By agreement the role may involve peripheral clinics.
