**Please note that this is a part time position working 22.2 hours per week. The pro rata salary for this will be between £12,918.60 to £16,804.80 per annum**

**The Opportunity**

Essex County Council recognises the value of Special Guardianship in providing permanence for children and young people in care, on the edge of care, and those receiving safeguarding interventions who would otherwise enter care.

Special Guardianship is a legal order made by the court that secures or allows a child or young person to live with someone permanently.

**Accountabilities**
- The post holder is required to create a visibility within the Special Guardianship and Connected Person Service regarding the importance of benefits information to customers (prospective and current Special Guardians) in line with the Essex Special Guardianship Policy and statutory regulations.
- To work collaboratively, build and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders e.g., Citizens Advice Bureau.
- Responsible for maintaining and developing advice standards within the service in line with the Department for Work and Pension’s welfare benefits system.
- To create and provide workshop/training opportunities to staff within the Special Guardian and Connected Person Service and customers (Special Guardians).
- To ensure that suitable confidentiality and data protection procedures are always followed and to manage and prioritise own workload in agreement with the line manager, participate in regular team meetings and work as part of a team to ensure the smooth and effective running of the service.
- Accountable for maintaining appropriate records related to activity and interventions within the allocated caseload.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
- The role requires the postholder to be mobile throughout a wide operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond. Driving licence and car availability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
- Within this role there will be a potential requirement for working outside of normal office hours, both during the evening and at weekends.

**The Experience You Will Bring**
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent qualifications or experience. Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area such as Housing, Universal Credit benefits and their effects on other areas of finances.
- Experience within a Social Care or Welfare Benefits environment, evidence knowledge of how they interconnect and overlap.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Systems, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Good mathematical skills.
- Strong inter-personal skills, non-judgmental in approach and awareness or experience of conducting interviews with customers in a lone working setting and awareness of health & safety policies and of safeguarding and how to deal with it.
- Ability to manage time appropriately, to prioritise and work to deadlines, able to balance workload priorities, be creative in making recommendations.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
