**Job summary**:
We are looking for a talented and ambitious Pensions Officer to join UHB's Pensions Team, based near the City Centre.

You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure with a high degree of accuracy. You will be part of an established Pensions Team who support and provide services to University Hospitals Birmingham and a further 25+ NHS Organisations, you will need to display excellent communication and organisational skills to meet non-negotiable deadlines.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
Under supervision for trainees, responsible for the Managing/prioritising and preparation, input and checking of an allocated section of NHS Trusts within agreed deadlines. This will involve basic/complicated calculations, and include the provision and receipt of sensitive and contentious information, which should be checked by the Senior Pension Officers or above.

Show the ability to be fully conversant with all systems used for processing the payroll and storing retrieving data. Be familiar with terms and conditions of service e.g. Agenda for Change, Trust policies, Local agreements and relate them to the Pension environment.

Demonstrate the ability to plan, schedule and be proactive with allocated workloads, and also to produce and receive information varying from basic to complex from Managers, other internal bodies and external organisations. Advise where necessary and recommend solutions.

Implement and interpret any updates or amendments notified through local agreements by the Trust or National amendments through statutory legislation and the NHS Pension Scheme regulations as notified by NHSPA.

Ensure work relating to pensions meets Audit and Standing Financial Instructions

Providing and receiving complex or sensitive information using developed interpersonal and communication skills and carrying out the job with empathy.

Personal skills are crucial as tact, diplomacy, sympathy and reassurance are needed on a day to day basis.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths.

**Desirable**:

- ECDL or equivalent computer skills.

**Experience**:
**Desirable**:

- Relevant clerical experience.
- Experience of working in an NHS Pensions environment.
- Experience of managing own workload and pensions allocation.

- In depth understanding of client organisation, Agenda for Change regulations.
- Able to understand and interpret changes in local, national and statutory regulations.
- Knowledge of NHS Pension scheme.
