The International Vehicle Standards division leads technical policy and regulation for new road vehicles - from e-scooters & bicycles to the heaviest trucks, buses & coaches to agricultural tractors and off-road machinery.

**Job description**:
Future Transport Systems and Environment is a new and exciting directorate and is at the heart of shaping our transport networks.

We aim to minimise the impact of transport on the environment, delivering cleaner air and lower greenhouse gas emissions, while improving mobility for everyone by using the latest technology.

We work closely with the UK automotive sector, international stakeholders and global partners to deliver the government’s policies.

The DfT Agencies (VCA and DVSA) are our delivery partners to ensure that new vehicles comply with legal obligations, and we lead the DfT programme establishing the post-EU legislative framework for new vehicles in GB.

**Responsibilities will** i**nclude, but are not limited to**_:_**
- You will principally support the Head of the Vehicle Standards Compliance branch through leading the division’s work overseeing the delivery of the £3.5m market surveillance programme by the Market Surveillance Unit (MSU) in the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
- You will develop an understanding of the automotive market and set direction for the MSU by agreeing which sectors of the market the MSU will investigate and what products it will test, working closely with your engineering colleagues in DfT and its agencies.
- You will agree the annual plan of work and monitor progress and spend.
- You will act as Secretariat for the governance board for compliance and enforcement workstreams of vehicle standards
- You will work with colleagues in the compliance team to develop policies to modernise compliance and enforcement regimes to ensure a flexible, proportionate, and responsive approach to regulating safety, security and environmental performance of vehicles.
- You will have line management responsibilities.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

You will have the option to be either based in London attracting the London pay scale, or in Leeds, Birmingham Hastings or Swansea attracting the national pay scale.
