The Head of Secretariat - Corporate will play a vital role in in putting Sport England’s visionary ten-year strategy, Uniting the Movement, into practice. Your previous experience will assist to put our plans into action and ensuring excellent corporate governance and decision making along the way.
In this newly created role you will lead the direction of a small Secretariat team and work with the Chair, Board and Committee members to ensure that our broader non-executive governance structures are effective, responsive and strategic. You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, and specifically own the planning and delivery of the Executive Leadership Team’s work programme, but also engage with leaders across the organisation. You will also work closely with the internal governance team to ensure our approach to risk, internal audit and compliance and embedded across the organisation.
**Role Purpose**:
Lead the corporate governance function (Board Secretariat team) by setting direction and strategically planning the significant decision made, ensuring its compliance with the various controls required by a government body.
**Skills & Experience**:
**Essential**
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role with a focus on corporate governance, preferably within the public sector or regulated environment.
- Experience leading a team with a strong commitment to a coaching style of leadership and line management
- In-depth knowledge of corporate governance principles, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Ability to evidence commitment to Sport England’s value and how they have been put into practice in previous roles.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, including Companies Act, Freedom of Information Act, and related legal frameworks.
**Desirable**
- Professional certifications such as ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) or equivalent.
