JOB DESCRIPTION - ASSISTANT NURSERY COOK
Responsible to the Manager and Cook.
Qualifications -Minimum requirement: Current Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
Full DBS required
Observing the company dress code:
Hair to be tied back or covered if touching your collar. No nail varnish No rings with the exception of a wedding band.
Kitchen uniform - black flat comfortable shoes, comfortable trousers and a polo shirt that will be provided.
Job Purpose:
To work under direction of the Manager and Cook to ensure the preparation of a balanced and healthy diet for the children, adhering to Company Policies and procedures and in compliance with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety, Health & Safety and within the guidelines of OFSTED and the National Standards.
Duties will include:
Working alongside the kitchen cook (whose hours differ but with whom you will overlap)
Being responsible predominantly for preparing tea time meals
- Preparing a suitably balanced and rotating menu taking into account dietary and cultural requirements of the children in line with the Nursery Manager’s requirements.
The preparation and cooking of all foods in accordance with the daily menus and for special functions.
Preventing cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.
Ensuring all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served. Ensuring that the correct food is served to children with known allergies or cultural requirements.
Making sure that all foods are covered prior to serving and during transportation to the rooms. Ensuring that meals kept for children are covered and chilled and correctly reheated in accordance with guidance from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Food Safety.
Monitoring and recording in writing the fridge and freezer temperatures daily.
Ordering stock in line with requirements, keeping records and budget control.
Maintaining correct stock levels, ensuring stock rotation and ensuring all stock is clearly labelled to include expiry dates.
Temperatures of high-risk foods must be recorded at time of delivery and cooking. All food must be stored and served at the temperatures required by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Food Safety.
Ensuring the kitchen and equipment is kept suitably clean at all times, including walls, floors, benches, serving trays and food boxes, following a cleaning schedule. On a daily basis that all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed and sterilized in accordance with food safety guidelines.
Ensuring effective and regular waste removal.
Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager
Elmfield Nursery, Gosforth, is a part of Jesmond Nurseries ltd and we are looking for a kitchen assistant for our Gosforth setting. The post is for 51 weeks of the year, 25 hours per week, working from 11.30-17.00.
