Use your Data Architectural skills to empower individuals and create new opportunities._**

Our vision is to create a more prosperous country. Increasing wellbeing and providing opportunities for everyone living in Scotland.

The Data Division, within the Digital Directorate, is the centre of excellence for data. We work towards unlocking the power of data in Scotland for public good, focusing on security, transparency, inclusion, innovation, and sustainability.

The Data Architecture Unit has been established to coordinate and support Data Architecture activities across the Scottish Government and Public Sector. Working in an Agile manner we support and empowering colleagues to make sure their individual expertise is best used.

**Job description**:
As Head of Data Architecture, you will play a pivotal role in leading a network of Data Architects across the Scottish public sector, empowering, and providing peer support to people as they seek to use data more effectively to keep government officials, civil servants, and the public informed.

This will include:

- Promoting data standards and supporting Digital projects across Scottish Government and the Public Sector to make their data discoverable, consumable, and interoperable, in support of a seamless experience for users of Scottish public services. Guiding this ecosystem towards standard registers and master data.
- Overseeing and supporting the work of a core team of Data Architects, prioritised in line with Digital Directorate and Data Division priorities, as they coach Scottish public sector organisations to design new and simplify existing data architecture around digital public services and data pipelines.
- Fostering a Data Architecture Community of Practice, within the wider Scottish Data Community, to encourage consistent approaches, the exchange of expertise, and peer review/support across the Scottish Public Sector.
- Coordinating with peers from different design and architecture disciplines across Scottish Digital, to design and deliver coherent digital solutions.
- Directing highly technical logical data modelling projects, to better integrate the worlds of operations, policy, and public information.
- Playing an active role in UK, EU, and wider international Data Architecture communities. Liaising, cohering, and sharing best practice with UK peers in the ONS (Office for National Statistics) Technical Design Authority and Government Data Architecture Network.

After a successful first year, you will have established frameworks for data architecture best practice across the Scottish public sector’s diverse services and put momentum behind the drive for seamless digital public services in Scotland.

**Person specification**:

- Extensive experience of operational Data Architecture across service organisations, and large corporate data estates - translating organisational and local business processes and policies into coherent data models, appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standards.
- Practical experience of Data Engineering and physical data modelling in large complex organisations, simplifying existing architecture and data pipelines for efficiency and deduplication.
- Experience of encouraging operational process change, to enable interoperability, through data governance and organisational governance frameworks.
- Experience of abstract logical data modelling to establish a common language for disparate domains.
- Experience designing data models for use by analysts and Data Scientists.
- Experience delivering solutions within the Data Lake and Data Mesh paradigms.
- Experience of commercial processes, and working across organisational boundaries under various commercial and non-commercial agreements

**Benefits**:

- A meaningful and rewarding career, a collaborative culture and support for your career goals, while promoting a healthy work-life balance. We offer a valuable range of benefits to attract, develop and retain the best talent. These include:

- Salary between £68,540 to £79,109
