Scunthorpe, United Kingdom Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Mental Health Services in North Lincolnshire have benefited from over £3m worth of additional investment, which has enabled us to expand our Hospital Liaison Mental Health Team to operate to a Core24 Liaison Mental Health Service Model to Scunthorpe General Hospital as part of NHS England’s ‘Achieving Better Access to 24/7 Urgent and Emergency Mental Health Care’ Guidance.

The Hospital Liaison Team is commissioned to work in a predominantly nursing-led consultation model, comprised of a Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Band 6 Nurses. with wider multi-disciplinary input from Consultant Psychiatrists and a Principal Psychologist.

Given that adults and older adults with mental health problems are three times more likely to attend an Emergency Department, and five times more likely to be admitted to a general hospital as an emergency, working within an ageless Mental Health Liaison Team (18+) is an extremely essential and rewarding role in a complex/ diverse environment.

The Hospital Liaison Team provide assessment and support to service users referred into our team by Scunthorpe General Hospital. Scunthorpe General Hospital is currently in the process of being extensively refurbished and modernised, designed in consultation with our Hospital Liaison Team to ensure we have dedicated office and consultation space to carry out assessments within the Emergency Department.

As a Hospital Liaison Nurse, you can guarantee that no two days will be the same; allowing you to enhance on your skills and knowledge in mental health as well as physical health. Your day-to-day duties would consist of:

- Provide a response to mental health crisis in Emergency Departments and Inpatient Wards within one hour and to all urgent Ward referrals within 24 hours;
- Complete a full biopsychosocial assessment and formulation and contribute to treatment and collaborative care plans;
- Offer brief evidence-based interventions as inpatient or short-term outpatient follow-up;
- Work with Scunthorpe General Hospital Teams to reduce length of stay in general hospitals and improve follow-up care.
- Provide advice and support to Scunthorpe General Hospital Staff regarding mental health care for their patients.
