Fixed term for six months with the option to extend to one year. Start date: August 2024.

The post will be based at the Royal Marsden site in Sutton.

Theatre

The post holder will have plenty of opportunity to participate in theatre sessions where they can assist in a range of operations in breast. Participation in daily ward rounds and the management of post operative patients is undertaken.

Clinics

The post holder will be expected to attend weekly rapid diagnostic and results clinics and to contribute to these clinics accordingly.

On-Call

The rota covers all surgical patients and evaluation of surgical problems arising in medical patients at the Sutton site during daytime hours. The standard hours are from 7.30am - 5pm from Monday to Friday with no night time or weekend working.

Other

Attendance at the multi-disciplinary meeting and journal club.

Wound reviews and hotline calls.

Attendance at the general surgical journal club.

Opportunities to undertake research, service improvement projects and audits under the supervision of consultants.

The post holder for Breast is expected to cross cover others for annual and study leave when required and to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

The postholder undertakes exceptionally to be available for irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.

Predominantly the Trust’s workload is from within the South West and West London Cancer Networks but, as a specialist cancer, the Trust has a high out-of-area referral rate for rare cancers, recurrent disease and treatment-related problems including international referrals. The Trust operates a shared care model with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust for paediatric cancer.
