As the Head of Communications, you will steer our messaging strategy, influencing how we communicate both internally and externally.

**Responsibilities**:
In this influential position, you will:
Craft and execute comprehensive communication strategies aligned with our organisational objectives.
Lead and mentor a skilled communications team, ensuring their growth and performance.
Collaborate with diverse teams to develop integrated communication plans.
Serve as a media relations advisor, handling media inquiries and protecting our reputation.
Maintain editorial excellence in Trust publications and materials.
Create impactful visual and multimedia content aligned with our goals.
Provide training and guidance to colleagues, ensuring consistent brand messaging.
Monitor the effectiveness of communication campaigns and provide insights for future strategies.
Contribute to devising long-term strategies that position the Trust for success.
Qualifications and Skills:

- Proficiency in traditional and digital communication channels
- Leadership experience in communication teams and impactful projects.
- Strong written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Organised and self-motivated, adept at managing deadlines and budgets.
- Creation of compelling content across diverse media formats.
- Familiarity with online engagement, including social media and website management.
- Effective interpersonal skills for diverse relationships.
- Alignment with the values and mission of the John Muir Trust.
Desirable:

- Passion for conservation and environmental advocacy.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and community consultation.
- Knowledge of web redevelopment and SEO.
Degree or relevant experience in communications, journalism, PR, or related fields.
Details:
Playing a key role within the Development and Communications team, the post holder will be responsible for raising awareness of the Trust’s work and wider objectives by working across our teams to deliver our communications strategy.

While the Head of Communications is responsible for managing a team of two full-time and one part time member of staff, plus contractors and agency partners, importantly they also support, assist and guide other staff who contribute to the overall communications output of the Trust, including working closely with our policy, engagement and regional delivery teams.

Working in support of a growing, diverse and dispersed charity you will need to have a good grasp of different communications tools and channels, understand how to tailor messages for different audiences and formats, and be able to guide and coach others to do the same.
- Deliver the Trust’s communications strategy - support all UK colleagues to be consistent and cohesive in how the Trust engages on values, audiences, messaging and be seen to champion the brand.
- Line manager of the Trust’s communications team (communications editor, communications officer and digital communications officer) and its communications partners, to deliver communications activities on budget
- Manage teams and tools in support of internal communications, including the Trust’s intranet and image library.
- Work collaboratively with the Trust’s regional delivery, policy, project and engagement teams to support teams to create tailored communications plans that are cohesive and align to the Trust’s strategies and plans.
- Work with the Trust’s engagement team to manage interpretation across all Trust locations and ensure they are consistent, persuasive and to a high quality.
- Create and deliver an annual media relations plan to increase awareness of the Trust’s strategies and objectives - acting as a press and media relations adviser to the organization and handling media enquiries.
- Oversee production of all Trust publications; including its bi-annual membership magazine _The Journal; _maintaining its high editorial standard
- Support leadership team with the copywriting of strategic opinion pieces, articles and or documents
- Work with others to create compelling film, visual and graphic information in support of the Trust’s objectives.
