**The Role**
- Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of the Policy Specialists within the team;
- Oversee the provision of SARG technical and policy advice
- Provide guidance, support, and direction to and maintain strong working relationships with internal policy and capability stakeholders including ATM/Airspace, Flight Operations, Business Delivery, Corporate Strategy & Policy, International Group. Additionally place a high degree of importance on issues related to Futures and Innovation including Vertiports/AAM, RPAS, Commercial Space Operations, environment, alternative fuels, and ground handling
- Provide guidance support and direction and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders as appropriate, including International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Eurocontrol and other key international bodies as appropriate
- Provide guidance support and direction and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholder and UK industry groups as appropriate, including the Combined Aerodrome Safeguarding Team (CAST), Airports Safety, Compliance and Operations Team (ASCOT), Wildlife Hazard Management Committee (WHMC) and the Airport Operators Association (AOA)
- Act as Manager Policy as required during absences
- Maintain an appropriate balance of knowledge, skills, and qualifications within the team

**Core Accountabilities**
- Ensure that SARG, and thereby CAA, specialist policies remain up to date and where appropriate are in line with national and international requirements and guidance. Taking into account ICAO, and EUROCONTROL provisions (being mindful of developments in EASA) and identifying new ‘rulemaking’ tasks that should be considered within the scope of the CAA’s Rulemaking and Policy Development procedure(s)
- Maintain AAAs ability to review, formulate and inform specialist policy by providing technical leadership, advice, and support to the policy specialists
- Line management of policy specialists within the Aerodrome Policy team
- Ensure effective and consistent implementation of CAA policies, providing guidance on policy interpretation where appropriate
- Ensure new or revised policies deliver high levels of standardisation within the oversight teams, are developed in accordance with SARG Management System (SARG MS) processes and procedures and meet the Government’s intent and principles regarding the development of regulation and policy
- Ensure CAA policies relating to regulatory compliance can be verified by the SARG Assurance team
- Inform and influence a broad range of AAA and wider CAA policy development in all domain areas allied to aerodrome operations
- Engage with, inform, and influence other teams within SARG and the wider CAA to ensure multidisciplinary issues are addressed through effective collaborative working
- Represent the UK at ICAO, EUROCONTROL and other global/regional forums through membership of appropriate specialist Panels, Groups and Committees ensuring a strong UK influence into global policy development
- Management of information within the SARG MS and SPO
- Capture and readily share safety-relevant intelligence, information, and analysis from multiple internal and external sources with all CAA groups. Use data to identify safety trends and areas of concern
- Offer timely and appropriate maintenance and updating of CAA webpages and intranet pages

Provide support to CAAi contracts as directed. When doing so, ensure the quality and timeliness of the technical outputs meets contract and customer expectations and that time recording/travel expenses are submitted no later than 1 week after the trip has been undertaken.

**About You**

To be considered for the role you must have:

- Extensive knowledge and experience relating to aerodrome operations and safety
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience of managing complex projects to support responsibility for leading, coordinating and contributing to multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills

**Additional Information**

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
