We operate a hybrid model of working, offering the opportunity for our staff to work from home, but also from a base within your ‘patch’ to enable you to be fully immersed within the community in which you will provide your skills and expertise. Bases of work are either Scarborough or Malton to allow for the reactive nature of the post.

**Role summary**

The role involves investigating and researching cases where non-compliance with planning permissions may have occurred and deciding on how to proceed through conducting research into planning records to obtain site history and other relevant information. In addition, carrying out of site investigations in respect of specific cases and providing advice as to how particular problems might be resolved and preparing reports to recommend formal enforcement action if necessary and appropriate.

The post holder will work with colleagues to build relationships and understanding across the Service and the wider Council; supporting each other to deliver excellent cross-service communication and corporate priorities and liaising with statutory bodies and other organisations.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Investigate and research cases where non-compliance with planning permission may have occurred.
- Receive complaints and enquiries which might involve an allegation of non-compliance with a planning permission and decide on how to proceed in each case.
- Conduct detailed research into planning records to obtain site history and other relevant information
- Carry out site investigations in respect of specific cases.
- Negotiating with applicants, contractors and members of the public, assessing available courses of action, writing reports recommending necessary action

**What you will bring**

Experience / Qualifications:

- Experience of building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge and use of ICT Office software
- Knowledge of Town and Country Planning legislation, policy and guidance
- Ability to work in a team and on own initiative
- Ability to work to tight timescales and to achieve targets
- Ability to resolve conflicting interests.
- Good negotiating, communicating and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interpret information and make balanced judgements in the public interest
- Ability to produce accurate and timely written reports
- Good numeracy and analytical skills
