The Royal Cornwall hospital is the sole provider of pathology services for Cornwall and is currently looking for a motivated, full time (37.5 hours) Band 5 to become part of our team in the busy, professional and friendly Microbiology department.

The department of Microbiology is currently split in to two main sections, Bacteriology and Virology/Molecular. Experience in the use of BD FX blood culture system, IQ Sprint urine analysers, Vitek, BMX BactAlert TB system, Malditof MS and a variety of molecular assays would be advantageous; together with working to UKAS accreditation standards.

Further training is encouraged and supported. The position offers the opportunity to become a valued member of our friendly team in a county renowned for its beaches and stunning scenery.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is situated on the outskirts of the Cathedral city of Truro in the centre of the Cornish Peninsula. The surrounding countryside is renowned for its spectacular rural and coastal scenery. Cornwall is well known for its surfing beaches, coastal and inland sailing waters, as well as equestrian opportunities.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals’ NHS Trust (RCHT) is part of the Cornwall Healthcare Community, working in partnership with other local trusts to deliver high quality healthcare services across the county.

To assist with training all MLA and Support staff and record training activities.

To be responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of an area, i.e. a bench within section of the laboratory

To assist with the audit and quality processes within the department
Prepare and process clinical specimens for diagnostic testing.

Verify information on and accept or reject laboratory requests by reference to the Specimen Acceptance Policy.

Applies departmental quality system to all aspects of the work

Applies departmental safety policies and procedures system to all aspects of the work.

Observes and applies the Directorate and Trust Health and Safety and Security policies

To participate in the on-call rota when HCPC registered and fully competent.
