**Mechanical Engineer**

**Location**:Alfreton, Derbyshire**

**Salary: £30,000 - £36,000 per annum**

**The Client**:
Our client are one of the world’s leaders in explosives, demolition and drilling and blasting. They have enjoyed a reputation for effective solutions, technological innovation and high-quality customer service. They produce tonnes of explosives annually,and have multiple subsidiaries in different countries around the world, with activities across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Today, they manufacture and supply a range of commercial explosives and tailor-made services. Their customer base includes many leading names in mining, cement, aggregates, civil engineering and defence.

**The Role**:

- To be responsible for the timely maintenance and compliance of mechanical plant and associated systems and cooperate with the Maintenance Manager to develop a robust planned preventative maintenance regime ensuring the highest safety standards are maintained.
- Minimise plant and site reactive maintenance jobs by assisting with the coordination and hands-on support of planned maintenance activities in accordance with production and site requirements.
- Ensure that all operations are mechanically resilient, such that all production critical assets and components, which cannot be easily sourced, are available as spares and that these are appropriately stored on site.
- Maintain and improve the plant and equipment at Rough Close Works in accordance with company standards relating to safety and operability ensuring down time is minimised whenever possible.

**Responsibilities**:
In collaboration with the Maintenance Manager, assist with the following:

- Scope, design, plan, cost and delivery of maintenance procedures and schedules for company activities.
- Ensure that all operations are mechanically resilient, such that all production critical assets and components, which cannot be easily sourced, remain available as spares on site.
- Responsible for day-to-day management and upkeep of the site asset register.
- Ensure that all mechanical equipment used on site complies the required industry standards.
- Assist with the maintenance and update of the site’s asset integrity procedures and written schemes of examination etc.
- Carryout the inspection and maintenance of all plant equipment to ensure that it operates safely and efficiently, ensuring that these activities are carried out in accordance with the relevant industry standards i.e., EEMUA 159.
- Assess the performance of the mechanical equipment on a monthly basis and identify opportunities where improvements of modifications can be made to increase equipment performance.
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
- Assist with the design and implementation of mechanical engineering projects.
- Ensure that all mechanical engineering work carried out on site complies with the site’s Health and Safety rules and procedures
- Communicate clearly and effectively to team members and other staff.
- Manage contractors as required to aim for maximum efficiency within the department.
- Investigate and solve problems as they occur, within the remit of your skills, training, and authorisation.
- Participate in a continuous improvement philosophy by working with staff and others to ensure the facility meets high operational and customer standards.

**Experience/Skills**:

- **Experience required**: At least 5 years industrial processing plant experience, responsible for carrying out plant mechanical compliance and maintenance activities.
- Safety trained, IOSH or NEBOSH or equivalent
- Time served mechanical engineering qualification.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency and will ideally have experience working in hazardous environments.
- Have an HND in Mechanical Engineering or completed a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
- Experience writing and reviewing maintenance procedures in line with manufacturers recommendations.
- Experience populating and maintaining CMMS systems (training will be given).
- Knowledge of EEMUA 159, ASME 31 etc would be advantageous.

**Hours**:

- Monday to Friday
- Permanent, full time
