**Fixed-Term Contract Duration: 18 Months**

A research assistant is sought for a two year post in Professor Yanick Crow's group, to support work investigating a rare human disease caused by mutations in the non-coding RNA U8, associated with impaired ribosome biogenesis (see: Nat Genet 2016;48:1185-92; Am J Hum Genet 2020;106:694-706). An interest in the pathological mechanisms of disease and translational research is required.

**The opportunity**:
This is a unique opportunity to join a team of scientists recognised internationally for work on Mendelian disorders; proceeding from clinical definition, through gene identification, to functional characterisation of underlying pathology. We will encourage the development of your research portfolio through involvement in all aspects of the life of the laboratory.

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- Laboratory experience, particularly in molecular biology, microscopy, genetic or small molecule screening, and the use of zebrafish as a model organism
- Specific skills relating to all or several of the following techniques: cell culture, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, RT-PCR, qPCR, western blotting
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Excellent knowledge of scientific English for speaking, reading, and writing
