Overseas Compliance Lead

**Job Overview**:

- We are looking for an accountant with experience of dealing with tax and accounting issues in overseas territories to join the Group Tax team. The role will involve looking after tax issues for a number of overseas branches (mainly located in Europe). The role reports to the Group VAT Senior Manager and is part of the Group Tax team.

**Main Duties**
- The main objectives of the role:
1. Main point of contact on tax matters for Mitie's overseas branches.

2. Responsibility for VAT reporting including providing data on a timely basis to external advisers preparing VAT returns for the overseas branches (mainly monthly reporting), reviewing returns and arranging for payments to be made.

3. Overseeing the orderly winding up of 9 branches as a consequence of a contract termination on 30 November 2023. Leading tax audits that are likely to occur as a consequence of the winding up of the branches.

4. Assisting the Group Tax team in dealing with the corporate tax compliance for the branches.

5. Support the Group Tax team on other tasks as appropriate.

**Main duties**
- Work closely with third party advisers to ensure VAT compliance deadlines (return submission and payments) are met, ensuring accurate and high quality returns are produced.
- Work closely with colleagues and external advisers to ensure an orderly winding up of branches including ensuring that data is retained and tax audits are dealt with.
- Partnering with key business areas and teams to provide accurate and timely advice where needed.
- Collaborate with Group Tax team activities and projects as and when required.

**What we are looking for**:
- Ideally qualified accountant.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage several deliverables within strict deadlines.
- Good communication skills to enable you to deal with all levels of Mitie staff and a range of stakeholders.
- High level of integrity with a commitment to work toward, and support, strong governance culture.
- Ability to work under demanding deadlines in a fast paced environment, and perform well under pressure.

Experience
- Experience of dealing with tax and accounting issues in overseas jurisdictions.
- Demonstrable experience of able to work to tight deadlines and be driven to succeed an enthusiastic team player

High proficiency in Excel.
