Young Persons Residential Support Worker

Orsa Housing provides a holistic package of accommodation and 1-1 support to empower people to make positive changes. We offer advice and guidance as well as practical support to provide solutions to some of the barriers that prevent an independent and healthy lifestyle.
We are one of the only housing providers to offer accommodation for people aged 16 years plus by providing them with short-term accommodation and face to face support. Orsa Independent Living (OIL) has been developed to provide a 24/7 supported accommodation service for care leavers aged 16 and 17, who are either leaving local authority residential care or have been in a foster placement and require continued support to enable them to be tenancy ready and live independently.

As a residential support worker you will support 16-17 year old's. This is a support role and is not a personal care role. You will not be required to complete any personal care, or administer medication. We are looking for residential support workers who have experience, and are qualified to an NVQ level 3 standard.
This role requires shift work and sleep ins. All support workers will be required to complete sleep ins as part of this role.

**Purpose of the roll**
- To provide high quality support to young people as part of OIL.
- To maintain a high quality of support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within OIL.
- Working from the guidelines from the 1989 Children’s Act, National minimum Standards, Every Child Matters and any other relevant legislation.
- Being ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimise their potential.
- Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future.
- To contribute actively to the creation and maintenance of a therapeutic homely environment, considering the young person’s wishes and preferences.
- To understand, contribute to and deliver the young person’s support plan daily and ensure that all the basic physical needs of the young person are met.
- To make decisions that are always in the best interests of the young people and the organisation.
- To be alert to signs of distress, neglect, or abuse, ensuring that the young people are monitored and protected.
- To know, understand, advise and guide the young people in line with Orsa Housing’s cultural and behavioural expectations as a provider of supported accommodation and employer of choice.
**Key Activities**
- To act in a manner that is always befitting of Orsa Housing as a provider of young person’s services and in line with the organisation’s values.
- To utilise the organisations whistle blowing policy to ensure that poor practice, negligence and dishonesty is dealt with appropriately.
- Keep up to date accurate records for the young people in line with systems of the service and the wider organisation.
- Carry out tasks and maintain all relevant records pertaining to fire safety, health & safety and other records as directed by the line manager.
- To implement all learning regarding training and development on a daily basis.
- To set high standards of homemaking and care for the fabric, equipment and grounds of the homes and wider organisation. Ensuring all domestic duties in the home are carried out to the highest possible standard.
- Be mindful of race, culture, language, sexuality and religion, to ensure that every young person is treated fairly and as an individual entitled to respect and dignity.
- Be sensitive to the needs of individual young people and provide support and comfort to young people under stress.
- To work with young people using the OIL support plan and other planning tools to train and guide them into becoming independent and able to sustain a tenancy once they reach 18.
- To work with internal and external services and professionals to ensure continuity of support for young people, maintaining professional relationships with young people, individuals with parent responsibility, social workers, teaching staff and other professionals involved in the support and care of young people.
- To make use of the homes petty cash and ensure financial systems and processes are followed correctly.
- With support from the line manager, use the home rota to manage your own training commitments and annual leave responsibilities effectively, ensuring that you are proactive and use initiative to ensure that all working hours are used effectively.
