**Key Responsibilities**: The post holder will be required to: Provide specialist and expert clinical practice to perioperative care services including: - Provide assistance to the anaesthetist; prepare equipment and disposables ready for use including intravenous infusion equipment and anaesthetic machines. Anticipate the needs of the anaesthetist allowing for changes in the patents condition and care needs. Proactively organising staff and resources for effective care delivery. Acting as a member of the resuscitation team.

Deliver evidence based patient care and participate in clinical audit as part of the Perioperative team. Initiate improvements in care delivery in consultation with Team Manager and multidisciplinary team. Assess patient care needs and support patients through invasive procedures. Develop patient care plans in response to assessment of patients condition.

Evaluate patients care at the completion of the anaesthetic or surgical procedure. Identify any areas where improvement to care delivery may be made and discuss with Team Manager and multidisciplinary team, participate in initiatives to improve patient care. Prepare and undertake the safe use of complex equipment and medical devices. Carry out routine checks of specialised equipment, operate specialised equipment as part of the delivery of patient care and assist in the use of equipment.

Take responsibility for training staff in the use of complex equipment, assessing competence and supervise learners using equipment and medical devices. Contribute to preparation of training materials. Actively participate in the review and evaluation of the service, contributing to standard setting; ensure own standard of care delivery meets the standards set within the department, supervise the delivery of care by less experienced staff. Participate in decontamination and cleaning of equipment within the theatre department.

Work appropriately when exposed to and handling body fluids daily. Identify the need to adapt patient care to meet infection control standards. Supervise less experienced staff working with body fluids ensuring safe practice. Lead the team when exposed to adverse and disturbing situations including experiencing the distress of patients undergoing emergency surgical and/or anaesthetic intervention.

Provide support for less experienced staff in adverse situations; seek support for the team if required from more experienced staff. Handle and change gas cylinders. Supervise support staff in safe handling of medical gases. Identify and communicate changes in planned care to Theatre Coordinator/Team Manager where appropriate.

Supervise the staff within the allocated team acknowledging when to give support. Ensure the correct care, labelling and dispatch of laboratory specimens according to Trust and local policies. Supervise learners and unregistered staff when handling laboratory specimens. Train staff in the handling of laboratory specimens.

Participate and supervise the replacement of stock to agreed stock levels, ensuring the bringing forward of stock in use and. Contribute to the maintenance of adequate stock levels, communicating shortages to appropriate personnel inside and outside of the department. Participate in ordering stock from agreed suppliers as required by Team Manager. Ensure written records are accurate and legible, enter data into theatre IT system, taking action in situations where the quality of the data may be affected.

Supervise staff using the IT system. In consultation with the relevant manager contribute to and co-ordinate if appropriate clinical trials and evaluation of equipment and supplies. Work within NMC/HCPC codes of conduct and within professional guidelines. Work is managed not supervised and the post holder will work independently after appropriate in-service training.
