**Early Help Worker - Specific focus School Attendance**

Sefton is a diverse and exciting local authority that is on a journey of aspiration and ambition as it works towards delivering it’s exciting Sefton 2030 Vision. This journey is shared with our partners and communities as we strive to ensure Sefton is a confident and connected borough.

**The role**:
Improving attendance is everyone’s business. The barriers to accessing education are wide and complex, both within and beyond the school gates, and are often specific to individual pupils and families.

Some pupils find it harder than others to attend school and therefore at all stages of improving attendance, schools and partners should work with families to remove any barriers to attendance by building strong and trusting relationships and working together to put the right support in place.

You will be required to have an understanding of the Early Help System and experience of facilitating the role of the Lead Practitioner, engaging families with a ‘hands on’ approach, coordinating plans and working in a multi-agency way to achieve sustainable outcomes for families particularly those identified as having poor school attendance. You will have a persistent, assertive and challenging approach and consider the family as a ‘whole’, getting to know and understand them and agreeing a common purpose and actions.

Equally important however will be the ability to engage and effectively communicate with schools and support them in delivering their school attendance strategy, ensuring staff, pupils and families understand that absence from school is a potential safeguarding risk and that they are aware of their role in keeping children safe. For the most vulnerable pupils, regular attendance is also an important protective factor and the best opportunity for needs to be identified and support provided. You will assist in helping to identify and remove barriers in school and ensure that families receive the support they need to overcome the barriers outside of school.

If you would like to join us on this exciting journey, we would like to hear from you.

**How to apply**:
