Bases: Rotherham, South Yorkshire

**Salary**: £21,840.00 per year

We are currently recruiting for an animal carer based at our shelter in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

**About us**:
We are a charity and the demand for our help is continuing to grow and we need more hands on deck now more than ever. We work with vulnerable cats and dogs within the local community who come into our care usually because of complex behavioural needs and medical needs.

**About the role**:
You will be required to work across both the Kennel and cattery assisting with care for animals, mainly helping to reduce the time spent with us and finding them new and loving homes. This role can be very physically demanding as you will be expected to work outside in all weathers 8 hours a day.

**Main Duties**:

- Arrange and conduct intake assessments with the assistance of the Kennel and cattery.
- Accurately fill In admission paper work in line with all policies and procedures.
- Be responsible for the welfare of all animals in our care making sure high standards are always met.
- Maintenance and cleaning of animal accommodation. Feeding, exercise, socialisation and enrichment of animals.
- To work closely with the welfare team with regards to progress of animals with the end goal to be the rehoming of animals.
- Delivering training and behaviour interventions to animals that require it.
- Uphold RCVS standards and conform to welfare and veterinary procedures for the administration of all medication conforming to legal requirements including the storage and handling of drugs and disposal of waste.
- Conduct behaviour assessments when required.
- Monitor the health and wellbeing of animals and take them to vet visits when appropriate.
- To ensure all animals have the required medication and treatment in line with standard procedures, including correct timing of neutering, vaccination, flea and worm and microchipping
- Oversee introductions between animals and potential new owners

**Required Experience**
- Full Clean driving licence
- Understanding of the animal welfare act and behaviour issues.
- Understanding and awareness of medical and behaviour issues within animals.
- Ability to care for cats and dogs that come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Experience working in animal welfare.
- Good communication and be able to work effectively as a team.
- Great customer service skills and an empathetic manner.
- Confident IT Skills and organisation skills.

**Experience**:

- working with dogs and cats preferably in rescue centre: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Manual Driving Licence (required)
