The team/department

The FCA has identified potential harms arising from Appointed Representatives (ARs) and their principals, which operate in a wide range of financial markets. To address these risks of harm, an Appointed Representative Department has been set up to undertake targeted action against the highest risk business models and Principals/ARs which represent the most significant risks of harm.

The Appointed Representatives Department has four teams - three Case Management Teams and a Strategy and Engagement Team, which are all supported by a Data Unit.

The three Case Management Teams intervene in the most complex cases of serious harm and are responsible for delivering both reactive casework and proactive multi-firm projects. The Strategy and Engagement Team leads on the development and design of the AR strategy, internal and external stakeholder relations and multi-firm projects.

We are looking for a talented, motivated and outcome focused individual to join our diverse and inclusive team to work in one of the Case Management Teams. The Department’s work is fast moving and has the potential to be high-profile.

What you will be doing

This role will include:
- Coaching, supporting and developing less experienced members of the team on their work, including developing an assertive strategy to mitigate harms- Using data to design, scope and implement proactive projects, including making recommendations on how to tackle identified harms in the regime- Building effective relationships with stakeholders, including at a senior level, both internally and externally, including negotiating with firms and often delivering tough messages- Preparing sensitive or complex written documents and managing broader communication plans to deliver key messages internally and externally- Performing analysis (including Business Model Analysis) on Principal firms and their Appointed Representatives- Influencing the Department’s strategy by helping to define priority outcomes and measures of success

The skills and experience you’ll have

Minimum- Previous experience of managing, developing & supporting others- Experience of working with the Appointed Representatives regime and associated business models in wholesale and retail markets

Essential- Experience of identifying key internal and external stakeholders and to build and maintain constructive relationships with them- Strong communication skills- Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills- Experience of quickly identifying key risks of harm from a range of information - think clearly, analytically and rigorously about how best to assess and validate these risks and reach robust risk-based judgements, especially being able to demonstrate resilience when under pressure- Experience of working effectively with others as part of a team to achieve desired outcomes, including a willingness to learn and develop yourself and others- Experience of retail and/or wholesale firms, in particular, insurance, retail lending, consumer investments and/or investment management- Practical experience of managing and delivering projects to successful and timely conclusions- Knowledge or experience of prudential supervision
