**Purpose of Post**:

The successful student will, during their 12 month placement, spend four months in each of the Teams listed below to ensure a wide range of experience both internally within Welsh Government and externally facing across the Welsh public sector. The successful student will assist with operational procurement activities in all three branches, embedding the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act goals and Welsh procurement policy, increasing skills in using innovative eProcurement tools, undertaking stakeholder engagement and also gaining unique experience in helping to provide advice to Welsh Ministers as necessary.

**Key tasks**:
Welsh Government Commercial Delivery Team

WGCD is a key partner in the delivery of Welsh collaborative procurement. Through its pipeline of over 30 Welsh national collaborative procurement frameworks, involving over 300 suppliers and with a value of circa £300 million, the WGCD provides a good deal for Wales by supporting:

- Welsh public sector in meeting business needs
- Welsh economy
- Well-being of future generations

WGCD operates a category management approach supported by category teams - categories cover Fleet and Professional Services, Construction, Facilities and Utilities, People and Corporate Services. WGCD agreements include Building materials, Office and educational furniture, PPE, Employee benefits, Agency works, IT goods and services.

The successful student will:
- Work on several WGCD agreements delivering practical policy and social value outcomes through a category management approach.
- Deliver key elements of category management, including contract management through supplier engagement.
- Assist in the planning and development of new procurement approaches.

Corporate Procurement Services Team

The key role and purpose of the CPS within WG is to help customers, partners and stakeholders meet their business objectives, ensuring best practice is adopted and value for money is obtained whilst working within the policies that WG is supporting to benefit the citizens and economy of Wales.

The successful student will:
- Be responsible for supporting WG in the effective operation of its strategic procurement activity over £25,000, ensuring it meets business needs and delivers against the Wales Procurement Policy Statement and Wellbeing of Future Generation goals.
- Support and advise customers throughout the process and provide procurement advice to customers generally.
- Be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships between Welsh Government departments, CPS and other public sector bodies

Commercial Procurement ICT Team

CPICT buys the technology systems used by WG - ranging from laptops through to the Hwb online learning platform. It also manages the eProcurement tools used by the Welsh public sector - planning how the tools will evolve and how we can best make use of exciting new technologies such as Robotic Process Automation & Artificial Intelligence.

The successful student will experience directly how new and existing digital technology is both procured and used across the WG by:

- Assisting in the support and advising of customers throughout procurement processes, using a range of conventional and innovative procurement routes.
- Practical involvement in the evaluation of tenders.
- Use of the eProcurement tools that are in use and or being tested for use in the Welsh Public Sector for managing procurement processes and contract management activities.
