**Development Underwriter / Senior DU - Events**

**Location - Birmingham, Maidenhead, London - Flexible**

**The Role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic and market focussed underwriter to join our team at either Development Underwriter or Senior Underwriter level. You will help us drive profitable growth for our product through careful risk selection and relationship development with your aligned broker panel.

**The Team**

Our UK wide Hiscox Event team specialise in underwriting contingency, property and casualty coverages for the events industry. We distribute via UK brokers through open-market, schemes, binders and our own website. The events we underwrite can take place anywhere around the world. Our typical customers are conferences, exhibitions, concerts and sporting events. As a speciality product our risks are often highly unique and rely upon the underwriter having a creative mind to assess multiple risk factors.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Case underwriting of property, casualty and contingency coverages for Event Organisers and Exhibitors
- Owning a top line result with your panel of brokers
- Arranging and connecting externally with face to face broker visits
- Connecting with Hiscox UK regional offices to develop new opportunities
- Leading and driving your own technical development
- Delivering technical training to the underwriting team
- Coaching colleagues in technical and soft skills
- Carrying out required Governance and Audit control checks
- Influencing the Head of on underwriting appetite and strategy
- Product & wording development, keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within the sector to ensure Hiscox market leading position is maintained

person specification:
Must have:

- A track record of underwriting cases and developing broker accounts in at least one of the three coverage classes
- An understanding of the events business
- Excellent relationship management and sales skills
- Progression towards Dip CII
- An analytical and data led mindset
- The confidence to make decisions and find creative solutions
- An ability to distil complex issues into clear and simple messages.
- Behaviours in line with the core values of Hiscox (Human, Integrity, Courage, Ownership, Connected)
- Excellent knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, brokers and factors that can affect the market including soft/hard markets
- Coaching and / or mentoring experience
