**Job description**:
**The role and our team**

The Smart Metering Implementation Programme (SMIP) is a major delivery programme spanning Government and industry, replacing traditional gas and electricity meters with smart meters in homes and small businesses across Great Britain.

Smart meters underpin the cost-effective delivery of net zero emissions, enabling us to use more renewable energy and reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels. They are also modernising the energy system for millions of consumers by providing information that households can use to manage their consumption, ending manual meter reads, reducing billing complaints and transforming the pre-payment experience.

We are looking for a motivated, organised and collaborative individual to join the Programme Management Office (PMO). The PMO is a friendly and encouraging team that works across the whole Programme, making it a great place to develop your project management skills, learn about governance for a complex infrastructure programme (part of the Government Major Projects Portfolio) and gain experience of working with important stakeholders. This is a varied and high-profile role, with visibility across the directorate, including regular engagement with senior leaders.

**Person specification**:
**Key responsibilities**
- Lead development and management of the internal programme plan. Monitor milestones, dependencies and forward-looking activities in close collaboration with policy and delivery teams and senior leaders across the Programme.
- Act as the team’s risk manager, collaborating with colleagues to keep the risks and issues log current and exercising judgement about which matters to escalate.
- Provide instrumental support for governance boards, involving senior officials and industry leaders that are vital to programme delivery.
- Take forward analysis, drafting and assurance of internal and external-facing reporting on programme progress for a wide range of important partners.
- Support high-profile programme-wide reviews as needed (for example by the Infrastructure and Projects Authority).
- Support the PMO in ensuring that all programme metrics are up-to-date and accurate, enabling us to use the information that we gather strategically and intelligently to support programme delivery.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues on effective project planning and delivery.

**Skills and experience**
- The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a range of partners, including at senior levels.
- Strong organisational skills, with the capability to prioritise and balance multiple areas of work simultaneously to ensure they remain on track.
- Experience of supporting meetings, with the ability to take notes on complex topics and ensure actions are progressed.- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with experience of developing and maintaining accurate documents.
