As a Matron your role is to provide excellent standards of patient care within the resources available. The Matron will be supported by key members of the Directorate Operational Team, and will provide clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality services to all services users in accordance with agreed objective’s, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.

To work in collaboration with the Surgical and Critical Care Triumvirate, Clinical Service Managers, Clinical Matrons, Clinical Nurse/OPD Managers and the governance team to provide clinical leadership to programmes of work aligned to nursing clinical / professional standards and governance within the Surgical Services.

Take delegated responsibility for ensuring compliance with national / regulatory standards for effective complaints and patient experience management and all activities related to patient experience.

To provide clinical and managerial leadership to the surgical directorate governance support team to ensure effective systems and processes and programmes of work are in place to ensure the most efficient uses of resources are delivered in alignment with national and local guidance.

Communication and Key Working Relationships
- Provide clinical leadership within the Surgical Directorate, encompassing the management of agreed performance objectives
- Ensure all services within your remit meet all quality agreed standards within the Surgical Directorate.
- Ensure surgical nursing resource is used effectively within the Surgical Directorate
- Provide expert advice to the Surgical Directorate on all surgical nursing matters
- Provide high level professional and operational support for the teams within the surgical directorate and the wider Trust to support the successful achievement of the Trust Vision.
- Take the lead within your remit for patient experience and user involvement
- Be visible and accessible for staff, patients and families to access for assistance, advice and support.
- Communicate effectively with individuals, their families, carers and health/social care practitioners and ensuring information remains confidential at all times.
- Communicate with managers, clinicians and all levels of staff within the directorate to provide guidance, information and advice on all aspects of clinical and professional nursing standards.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of health professionals, voluntary sector colleagues, and peer support workers.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with service users within appropriate, professional boundaries where appropriate.
- Communicate clinical information with other professions and agencies effectively.

Leadership
- Contribute to the development of the profession through proactive involvement in local and regional forums. Represent the ADPC as required.
- Provide professional and operational advice and guidance at a senior level within the Surgical directorate.
- Deputise for the ADPC as required
- Participate in the Trust Senior clinical on call rota
- Participate in Trust investigations and disciplinary hearings as required
- Attend and contribute to relevant senior nurse forums
- Undertake appraisal of staff in line with Trust agreed delivery, ensuring a personal development plan to optimis
