**Apprenticeship Summary**:
We are looking someone to join our Nursery team, alongside an experienced teacher and class teaching assistant. The role would be an Early Years apprenticeship, based in the Nursery classroom, 5 days a week, term time only.

Becoming an apprentice in an Early Years setting can be a rewarding way to gain practical experience in the field of education while also working towards a qualification. We are looking forward to welcoming someone into our team and supporting them in their development.

**Key Apprenticeship details**:

- Monday to Friday (shifts to be confirmed)
- Working hours per week: 37.5
- Term-Time Only (38-40 weeks)
- Wage: Apprenticeship minimum wage - £5.28, this is increasing in April to £6.40.
- After the first year with the school hw wage will automatically increase the the NMW for your age.
- Location: Junior King's School, Milner Court, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 0AY

**Key responsibilities**

The main functions of an Apprentice are to:

- Ensure close supervision of all children within the nursery at all times.
- Providing a high-quality play and learning environment for the children.
- To support other practitioners in their daily practice.
- Make secure bonds with children.
- Attend and participate in regular supervision meetings with the Line Manager and contribute to appraisal.
- Ensure that all room practices, procedures, and planning are implemented to deliver inclusive anti discriminatory practice.
- Be willing to carry out any other duties commensurate with post.

An Apprentice will be engaged in a wide range of tasks, which can be categorised and detailed as follows:

- To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times.
- To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
- To understand and work to Pre-Prep and Early Years policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
- To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes.
- To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the preschool aims and objectives

Management of Apprentices
- The line manager/mentor for the Apprentice will be the Nursery class teacher.
- The Head of Pre-Prep will be responsible for job descriptions, setting duties and extra curricular responsibilities.
- When appropriate, the Apprentice will attend inset days and whole staff team meetings, normally at the beginning of each term. Additionally there will be a weekly Classroom
- Assistant’s meeting and the Apprentice will be asked to attend if available.

Professional Development of Apprentices
- In the Pre-Prep we recognise that our children learn most effectively when we invest properly in the professional development of all our staff and we recognise that our Apprentices will bring to the job a variety of skills and areas of expertise.
- All Apprentices in the EYFS and within the Pre-Prep will have a Supervision session every term with the head of Pre-prep.

- C/4 in Maths and English/ Level 2 Functional skills or equivalent
