Physiotherapy Assistant

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time physiotherapy assistant post within our lovely Children's Physiotherapy Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible individual with an interest in the physical management of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The applicant will be well organised and have good communication skills. This is an ideal post for you to develop transferrable skills within a rewarding environment.
The post involves carrying out physiotherapy programmes under the supervision of senior staff, monitoring equipment, assisting with the organisation of clinics, supporting aquatic therapy sessions and providing administrative support to the team.

Clinical
To assist children with their physiotherapy programmes on an individual basis and in group settings either under the supervision of the physiotherapist or following a programme devised by a physiotherapist.
To report back to the physiotherapist any change in condition or any adverse effects.
To be responsible for own safe and competent use of all physiotherapy equipment, aids and appliances.
To assist with hydrotherapy sessions before, during and after treatment including changing children, acting as a lifesaver and tidying and locking the changing rooms and pool area.
To assist in Orthotic Clinics by preparing the room, collecting children from class, assisting physiotherapist and orthotist, liaising with class and completing paperwork.
To place children into standing frames.
To prepare for group and individual treatments, assist in groups following a programme devised by a physiotherapist.
Communication
To use a range of verbal and nonverbal communication to communicate effectively with children who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
To liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
To be part of an effective communication web within the team.
To be aware of the sensitive nature of certain information and act accordingly on a need to-know basis.
To share information and take appropriate action if there are concerns about staff or patient safety or about a patient’s condition or treatment.
Admin
Provide general administrative services as required by the department.
To assist with the booking of treatments and clinics and with accurate and timely record keeping.
Locate medical notes within a department or request them from other locations.
Provide timely collection and delivery of medical notes when required.
Assist in requesting copies of notes, investigations and results from internally and from other healthcare organisations.
Filing letters and reports in medical notes promptly and general office filing.
Receive and sort daily post, date stamp and distribute as appropriate.
Photocopying, posting documentation.
Deal with telephone or face-to-face enquiries within agreed limits and take appropriate actions.
Education and Development
To participate in the Service IPR as an appraisee and to be responsible for complying with agreed personal development programmes.
To be an active participant in the in-service training programme.
To attend mandatory training as specified in Directorate and Trust policies.
Organisational
To comply with Trust, Directorate and Service policies, procedures, guidelines, standards,
rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
To be involved in the collection and recording of appropriate data and statistics for Service, Directorate and Trust use, including data entry, and to carry out routine administrative duties.
To monitor and maintain levels of stock, equipment and resources to ensure smooth running of the department.
To bring defects in equipment to the notice of the line manager.
To be aware of risk management issues and liaise with line manager.
