**Location**: Hybrid working (balanced between Victoria Place, Leeds, home-working and the need to travel as required to other locations as needed)
**Role summary**:
The Head of People Operations (HoPO) reports to the Director of People Operations and is responsible for managing the People Services function within First Bus, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of advisory and administration services to internal stakeholders, streamlining HR processes and driving continuous improvement in service quality and the employee experience.
The HoPO will drive a high performing and collaborative culture to ensure delivery of results and, using their HR expertise, leadership skills and continuous improvement mindset, they will collaborate with Heads of People across the Local Business Units and Central Functions to optimise People Operations delivery.
The HoPO will be a natural role model for inspirational leadership and demonstrate a high challenge/high support approach to people team members and management and leadership teams across First Bus. They will act with integrity and promote First Bus values and behaviours (‘our way') across their area of responsibility and the broader business.
**Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities**:
Leadership
- Provide strong and inspirational leadership to the People Operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance.
- Provide guidance on good practice, industry trends, and emerging technologies in HR to ensure efficient delivery and continuous improvement.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations and monitor the team's performance against defined metrics and KPIs.
People Operations team (People First & Administration)
- Lead a team of people professionals to provide expert advice and guidance on employee relations matters to managers across the business, supporting cultural evolvement and ultimately reducing the number of employee relations cases.
- Oversee the end to end delivery of transactional services aligned to the employee lifecycle, including but not limited to onboarding, offboarding, employee records management and compliance with employment legislation.
- Implement and maintain efficient and standardised people processes to ensure consistency and accuracy in service delivery, evolving as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
HR Analytics
- Ensure effective implementation of the people dashboard to support data-driven decision-making across the people team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to analyse trends and provide insights for workforce planning and development to people team and business leaders.
Change Management, Technology & Systems
- Work closely with the Director of People Operations to understand the implementation approach for the new people system, ensuring the People Operations teams are ready to support migration in relation to process and capability.
- Lead on / support other change activity relating to people process improvements, people change programmes and growth (franchising/M&A).
Stakeholder management/collaboration
- In conjunction with the Director of People Operations, collaborate closely with CoEs, business partnering teams and other key stakeholders to understand their needs and align People Operations delivery with business priorities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for People Operations escalations, addressing complex inquiries and ensuring prompt resolutions.
Compliance and Governance:
- Ensure people practices and processes are compliant with employment legislation and company policies based on good practice.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, ensuring data privacy and security.
Budget Management:
- Manage the People Operations budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost-effective service delivery.

Experience
- Experience senior people leader with a focus on advisory and transactional services and analytics.
- Strong understanding of people processes, best practice, employment legislation and industry trends.
- Proven track record of successfully leading HR teams, specifically in a shared services environment.
- Proficiency in People software and analytics tools.
- Change management expertise to drive process improvements and organisational change.
- Degree qualified or equivalent, membership of a relevant professional body desired.
