Linwood School is an ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted January 2018) multi-campus, day special school for children and young people aged 4 - 19. We welcome them from a wide geographical area and support a comprehensive range of special educational needs including moderate (MLD), severe (SLD) and profound (PMLD) and complex learning difficulties (CLDD) as well as those on the Autism spectrum.

- ** Hours**: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am - 3.30pm, 39 weeks per year
- **Wage**: Pro-rata £14,979 - £15,252 per annum
- **Location**:Alma Rd, Winton, Bournemouth, BH9 1AJ
- **Apprenticeship Standard**:Level 3 Teaching Assistant
- **Duration**:16 months

Overview of the role:
Due to the special educational needs of our students this role can be challenging and sometimes physically demanding, however the work is also very rewarding. Resilience is a key personal quality for the role as is the ability to communicate effectively using a range of tools. As a Teaching Assistant at Springwood Campus your main responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities:

- Follow each individual young person’s care and medical plans, which may include epilepsy and manual handling, and carry out necessary procedures following appropriate training.
- Administer medicines according to school policy, including via specialist techniques following appropriate training.
- Assist with intimate and personal care e.g. personal and/or feminine hygiene and bathing, ensuring the highest standards are met.
- Assist where necessary with eating and drinking in line with care plans.
- Enable and encourage as high a level of independence as possible.
- Under the direction of the class teacher, support students to engage in activities to their full potential, using appropriate total communication techniques.

Apprenticeship Summary:

- You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months
- All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release
- An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship

Skills & Personal Qualities:

- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- A good team player
- Eager to learn
- Passionate about teaching

Qualifications:

- GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential
- GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) essential

**Apprenticeship Overview**

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
- ** Milestone 1. **Keeping children safe in Education - (KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, serious case reviews, health, safety and wellbeing legislation)
- **Milestone 2. **Professional Standards and Personal Accountability - (Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development)
- **Milestone 3. **Child Development and Behaviours - (Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management).
- **Milestone 4.** Curriculum and Technology - (School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages)
- **Milestone 5.** Learning and Assessment Strategies - (Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND Strategies and partnership working)
- **Milestone 6.** Prep for End Point Assessment
