**Job Purpose**
To develop, lead and sustain research and scholarship of international standard and contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing agreed teaching, assessment and administration processes to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Physics and Astronomy. You will play a prominent role in the international theoretical particle physics programme in research areas that add value to the current or future experimental programme worldwide. You will complement the group’s established research directions, with clear points of engagement and synergy.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**-2. Enhance the research of the Particle Physics Theory research group by strengthening and complementing existing work, identifying synergies with others in both the theory and experimental groups, and also seeking new opportunities in the wider community. Develop an expert reputation in the field by effective dissemination and publishing of research findings in leading journals and conferences and, where appropriate, undertaking knowledge exchange activities.
3. Contribute to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College. Establish research collaborations with appropriate individuals and groups within the University and develop external research collaborations both nationally and internationally, to ensure that research activities are at the forefront of the field.
5. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
6. Develop effective approaches which enhance intellectual understanding and innovation in the field and support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
7. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and attainment of learning outcomes.
9. Supervise project work at undergraduate and Masters levels and take forward the supervision and training of postgraduate research students.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
13. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.

C1 Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in areas of theoretical particle physics overlapping with and complementing those currently pursued in the particle physics theory group. Comprehensive knowledge of current research in particle physics more generally.
C2 Proven research skills, including the capability to generate new ideas and use them to initiate new projects. Established reputation in research, as indicated, for example, by research publications, presentations at conferences and international collaborations.
C3 Proven ability to design, review and deliver teaching and assessment programmes.
C4 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding and developing early career academic colleagues.
C5 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.

**Experience**

**Essential**:
E2 Experience and achievement in the relevant field reflected in an expanding personal academic portfolio.
E3 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching and research methods and devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques, and methods.
E4 Track record of continuous engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
