Overview of the role
This newly created opportunity will report into our Chief Wholesale Officer. You'll have responsibility for the depots and transport function within the wholesale business area, driving high performing teams within our multi-site operation across the UK and ROI. You'll be both operationally and commercially focused, leading on the national day to day depot and transport operations ensuring the business areas operate safely, effectively and efficiently.

Main Responsibilities
- Develop the overall Warehousing and Transport strategic plan to ensure adequate network capacity and optimise service levels., inclusive of growth projections & capacity considerations whilst minimising the overall cost for the Company.
- Being accountable to ensure efficient movement of stock inbound and outbound of depots and into the wholesale transport system, driving efficiencies and ensuring SLAs are met.
- Being accountable for depots and transport budgets, performance and results, while continuing to promote a continuous improvement mindset and developing a high performing warehouse & transport operations team.
- Working with the Transport Management teams and wider fleet colleagues to lead on the Wholesale Transport integration activity and operational planning, devising a longer-term strategic plan to operate a safe, compliant but cost-efficient fleet. Considerations of automation within this planning will be key.
- Working closely with the buying teams to identify supply chain risks that may impact the depots and working collaboratively to put risk mitigation measures in place.
- Maintain a proper process framework and detailed process documentation with the appropriate governance structure.
- Working closely with the Head of Compliance to ensure Depots & transport are compliant with legislation and regulatory requirements (MHRA)
- Working closely with the legal team to carry out regular commercial reviews to ensure all new and existing contracts meet industry standards and that the business is adequately protected, making recommendations where relevant. Identifying opportunity to make operational and financial efficiencies, such as bringing certain contracted out activity in house.
- Negotiating new contracts where necessary to ensure a clear and consistent commercial approach is adopted.
- Liaise with Senior Management across the business to develop possible synergies, whilst at all times driving profitability and utilisation.
- Lead your direct reports to align to industry best practice. Support with process improvement (including automation options) and implementation improving the customer experience and ensuring real growth. This process should include keeping up with industry changes and benchmarking - with a particular focus on operating to best cost.
- Carry out regular systems reviews to ensure the business is well placed to work seamlessly with customers, suppliers and other business areas.
- Resolve any service issues and ensure that the business fulfils all contractual obligations and SLAs.
- To contribute and be a member of the Wholesale Leadership Team contributing to the wider strategic and operational plans of the business and long-term revenue growth.
- To control and manage all necessary operational actions and responses in the event of a service disruption incident at a depot. To ensure rapid and effective complaint resolution and analysis, where appropriate ensuring that changes in process are made to prevent future re-occurrence.
- Define the depots property requirements, working with our Head of Property and Legal teams, to implement this strategy for the depots based on current and future requirements.
- Drive and be accountable for compliance within the depots and wholesale driver business area ensuring that, where possible, all risks to the business are mitigated and major risks are flagged - with action plans in place to provide resolution.
- Ensure accurate reporting of Warehousing & Transport activities are carried out across the business units, so that profitability can be effectively measured by providing agreed accurate and effective KPI measurements to provide clear visibility of the performance.
- Ensure that current and future projects are identified, planned and implemented in line with budgetary constraints and delivery time scales.

You'll be a clear and insightful leader with a proven track record of challenging the status quo, driving improvements, and designing complex modelling of warehousing and transport solutions (experience of automation would be highly desirable). As an experienced operational leader you'll have clear expertise in delivering optimal warehouse networks and driving high performance.
