We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Pricing and Business Intelligence Actuary to join our Business Pricing team.

**The role**

In this role, you will be using large data sets to keep an eye on trends in mortality, persistency and sales mixes that could affect our SunLife Protection business lines, and monitoring the risks to which these books are exposed. It is a unique role at Phoenix, as you will be involved in steering the direction of our “open book” arm, taking a lead in pricing activities, and overseeing the production of effective and insightful Management Information (including new business profit reporting) to ensure we continue to create value from our new business lines.

This is a role with a strong commercial focus where you can put your actuarial knowledge, management skills and your analytical and modelling skills to great use, and where your findings and recommendations could influence our future business direction. The work done directly monitors capital and profitability trends in a dynamic environment and there will be involvement in annual strategy setting, thus giving you access to processes steering the business.

Key responsibilities:

- Manage the reporting process of the SunLife new business profit
- Mentor and develop direct report and broader team members.
- Contribute to the specification, development and testing of complex propositions or numerical models, analysing a range of business data, making recommendations to Senior Actuaries and/or senior management to support decision making
- Support implementation of product and pricing changes into the downstream MI, reporting and annual plan processes
- Set assumptions for pricing and valuation in relation to protection book. This includes compiling experience reviews
- Continually look to enhance processes and procedures to deliver effective solutions for the business
- I Interrogate data (to policy level) and deliver analysis of change explaining differences with low tolerance for unexplained variance.
- Support and manage team members and guide them to solutions
- Communicate complex concepts and recommendations to multiple stakeholders across the business including senior managers

**What are we looking for?**

Essential:

- Ability to understand and alter code in modelling software/Excel/MS Access
- Experience in building models via Excel or in actuarial software packages to deliver specific output
- Appetite to learn and use BI software to deliver analysis and outputs
- Understanding of how to utilise analysis of change to validate outputs
- People management experience
- Good communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a technical actuarial audience and simplify communications of technical issues to a non-technical audience
- Strong ability to self-manage and prioritise work. Being able to fit ad hoc queries into work, without derailing BAU delivery

Desirable:

- Experience working with MG ALFA or good understanding the code, inputs and outputs. Work will include use of MG ALFA and interrogating outputs down to policy level
- Previous experience of (and a passion for) writing bespoke code to model commercial or actuarial problems, and a background with analytical tools such as SAS, SQL, Qlik or Oracle BI
- Knowledge of reporting and capital processes and concepts
