Job description

Applications are invited for a clinical obstetric research fellow to undertake research for the MRC funded MiBirth study using advanced MR imaging in late gestation to better predict mode of birth, under the supervision of Dr Jana Hutter and Professor Mary Rutherford within the Department of Perinatal Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London and Dr Manju Chandirmani Guys and St Thomas Hospital, Department of Women’s Health.

This FT/PT post is based at the St Thomas’ Campus. There will be clinical duties related to the research project.

Applicants should be medically qualified with full GMC registration. Applications are especially welcomed from applicants with obstetric qualification and an interest in fetal imaging, MRI & AI.

The post holder will be based within the Perinatal Imaging & Health Department, King’s College London at St Thomas’ Hospital, part of the school of biomedical engineering, comprised of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists with a commitment to translational research and with a long history of undertaking clinical trials and research studies in fetal MRI.

Prior research experience and peer-reviewed publications are highly desirable but not essential.

The post holder will have a key role in the ongoing delivery of the MiBirth study by facilitating the recruitment of patients, being the key point of contact for participants throughout the study (arranging study MRI appointments, bookings, follow up) and by undertaking data entry into clinical and research study databases.

The post holder will also take an active role in delivering the academic outcomes of these projects through analysis of the study data and scientific dissemination of results. They will work in close collaboration with both technical and clinical members of staff on all levels

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 2 years and 9 months.

This is a FT/PT (7 sessions minimum).

Key responsibilities
- Being the key point of contact for patients and volunteers for the MiBIrth study
- To help with regulatory aspects of projects; identify & recruit patients for the two aforementioned studies; supervise scanning & reporting of recruited individuals.
- To undertake data entry into clinical and research study databases
- To analyse study data, write up and present study results.
- To support other research activity within the department.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- Awareness of fetal MRI in clinical practice and in research setting
- Experience in the clinical management of labour and delivery.
- Organisation and management skills.
- Good computing skills
- Good verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work to clinical & scientific deadlines

Desirable criteria
- Research experience, including presentations/publications
- Experience of advanced MRI techniques
- Data entry, analysis & statistical knowledge
