UCL is one of the U.K.’s premier research and teaching Universities ( ), ranked within the top 15 global universities, and has one of the largest Biomedical Faculties in Europe. University College Hospital (UCH) is a new state-of-the-art hospital in central London ( with access to several imaging modalities, including MRI-PET and other functional imaging, and molecular pathological services. In 2012, the new £110 million UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre opened opposite the UCL Cancer Institute, the hub for cancer research and translation research. This is the UK’s most advanced out-patient cancer care facility.

The UCL Cancer Institute has a total grant income over £100 million, houses over 350 scientists, and includes many clinician scientists among its 57 Group leaders. The Institute is an internationally recognised centre for cancer research, housing translational technology platforms funded by the CRUK City of London (CoL) Centre, including genomics, bioinformatics, proteomics, single cell DNA and RNA sequency, flow and mass cytometry, confocal microscopy and an organoid plaform. UCL is an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and is one of four CRUK centres that form the CRUK City of London Centre

The post-holder will be expected to develop research projects within their chosen field in Haemato-oncology, Oncology, Cancer Biology or Pathology at the UCL Cancer Institute, and work towards preparing an application for a Clinician Scientist fellowship (MRC, CRUK, Wellcome), under mentorship and supervision within a research group in the Cancer Institute. They will be expected to develop their local and national profile in their chosen area of research and expertise, working with the relevant clinical teams to position UCL/UCLH at the forefront in this area. The UCLH/UCL partnership has been awarded Biomedical Research Centre status by the National Institute for Health Research and cancer research is one of its four major themes.

About you

We are advertising 2 posts.

Successful candidates are expected to have completed a PhD, have excellent research outputs appropriate to their professional stage, and evidence of influence and research network in their field.

Posts are open to any sub-specialisation within haemato-oncology and oncology, but consideration will be given to securing the highest calibre of candidate with academic activity and ambition whilst balancing the interests and strengths of the relevant Research Departments and the Cancer Institute as a whole. The aim is to recruit two future group leaders who will secure fellowship funding to establish a world leading research group within the Institute, while contributing to the research programmes and academic life of the institute. This includes participation in teaching, supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate clinical and non-clinical scientists.
