In Kensington and Chelsea, we’re committed to creating cleaner, greener and safer streets. That includes working with local communities to reduce the amount of commercial waste dumped on the highways. Every year we investigate more than 20,000+ requests from senior management, councillors, residents, businesses and visitors to the borough, and undertake the enforcement of over 50 criminal offences related to commercial waste.

**The Role**:
As a Commercial Waste Enforcement Officer, you’ll patrol your neighbourhood, either alone or with another officer, getting to know local businesses. Every day is different but you will be spending a lot of time outdoors and on your feet. It’s a uniformed role, so you’ll be highly visible, deterring environmental crime but also educating and influencing people about the impact their actions can have. You will also need to check premises have the correct waste disposal documentation, investigate reports of dumping and carry out enforcement activities.

**About You**:
You’re likely to have a background in highways or waste enforcement, including knowledge of relevant legislation and powers. Success depends on good communication and an ability to resolve problems by influencing the behaviour of others. You enjoy talking to the public and you’re ready to engage respectfully with individuals from all kinds of backgrounds. We expect you to remain assertive and calm under pressure as people you encounter may occasionally be challenging. You must be able to record information, gather evidence and write brief reports. Flexibility about working hours is important as, along with day shifts (9.00am - 5.00pm), you’ll be required to work occasional nights and one weekend a month.
