As an apprentice property surveyor, you'll embark on a 5 year journey to learn what goes on behind the scenes to ensure that we are able to access land to operate and maintain our vast network of water mains and sewers across the region and to construct new infrastructure as part of the Company's Capital Programme to improve and enhance our water and waste water services for customers, communities and the environment.

**A bit more about the role**

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Property Surveyor to join our Access & Acquisitions Team within our Property Services Department based at our Head Office in Warrington or at our Mintsfeet Road office in Kendal.

The Access & Acquisitions Team specialise in gaining entry to private land to carry out pipelaying works, consulting with affected landowners, occupiers and other key stakeholders and the statutory framework surrounding the valuation, compensation and acquisition of land.

You will get to work alongside multidiscipline project teams as part of the Company's Capital Programme to ensure the successful delivery and construction of new infrastructure and facilitate access to land to operate and maintain our vast network of water mains and sewers across the region. You will provide a comprehensive access and acquisitions service to other key departments including Capital Delivery & Engineering, Water & Wastewater Network Services, Developer Services and Legal Services.

**What will you focus on?**

During your 60 month apprenticeship, you'll carry out tasks such as; managing a varied caseload of capital and network projects, issuing Statutory Notices, Land referencing, preparing valuations and budgets, negotiating and settling compensation claims after laying or repairing a pipe, acquiring interests in land for strategic infrastructure, landowner liaison and consultation, agreeing and advising on accommodation and reinstatement works, inputting into decision making on pipeline routes and site selection, arranging temporary site compound license agreements, together with other aspects in the Property Services Department.

During your apprenticeship you'll gain an insight into the Water Industry. You'll also learn about the Water Industry Act 1991, the Company's Code of Practice for Pipe laying in private land and an awareness of the relevant legislation, statute and government guidance pertaining to the statutory compensation code, compulsory purchase procedures and valuation method principles.

We're looking for someone who's keen to gain hands on experience, develop practical skills and achieve the standards needed to really succeed in your role.

You'll have a dedicated mentor and manager who'll be on hand to support you every step of the way. All that we ask from you is that you're willing to learn, know how to work as part of a team and can manage your time and workload to get things done.

Typically, you'll need:

- 3 A Levels or equivalent, grades C or above (providing 104 UCAS points for entry to a level 6 Higher Education programme)
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent, grades A-C or grades 9-4, which must include Maths and English Language

You'll also have:

- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Good planning, prioritisation and time management skills with the ability to achieve targets and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivation and drive.
- Excellent computer and IT skills.
- Full UK driving Licence and access to your own transport
