If yes, we have a fantastic new opportunity to join our advocacy team, which is part of our local services teams, who deliver a range of Dementia Support services across the 3 nations to people living with dementia

**About the role**

Advocacy is defined as a service offered by advocates in a formally supervised environment. It aims to empower people living with dementia to express their views, wishes and concerns. The service supports them in their choices and rights and provides information about and support to access services across all providers.

You will be based in Belfast and will be responsible for the delivery of an independent advocacy service for People with Dementia and for promotion and development of the service.

You will offer support to people in a variety of ways, whether in the person's own home, hospital and residential setting or at other locations in the community. Support can be delivered on a face to face, phone or virtual basis. You will also assist people to access other services, providing signposting and referrals when appropriate.

This role will require you to build relationships with a range of local contacts. You will network with health and care professionals, marketing Alzheimer’s Society provision in the Belfast area to promote people being referred to the service as early as possible. You will also develop networks with partner organisations to promote the aim of empowering individuals living with dementia to make informed choices.

This role is a community based role, but you will be required to travel to deliver your service, attend meetings and team-days, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK and be comfortable/willing to travel throughout the agreed geographical areas.

**About you**

We are looking for:

- An understanding / willingness to develop an understanding of dementia and the impact of dementia on both those diagnosed and those caring.
- An understanding of the principles of advocacy and the rights of people with dementia and their carers.
- knowledge of the relevant legislation//willingness to learn about the relevant legislation including the principles of the Mental Health Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 and other rights related regulations.
- An understanding of the issues associated with vulnerable adults, mistreatment and abuse.
- Ability to influence and persuade.
- Highly skilled in communicating (orally and in writing) and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- An empathetic approach with a commitment to equal opportunities.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to effectively manage a caseload.
Proficient in producing reports, data relating to this role and a confident user of Microsoft packages.
