The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) supports the delivery of the Local Authority's wellbeing strategy and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) strategy across educational settings, children, young people, and families throughout West Sussex.The EPS directly oversees the Portage Service and the Thought-Full, Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in schools.

Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHSTs) are an exciting new initiative and an important strand of the Government's 2017 Green Paper 'Transforming Children and Young People's Mental Health Provision'. The MHST service in West Sussex is called Thought-Full:Helping you think it through.

Thought-Full exist to support schools with all aspects of Mental Health and Wellbeing. We do that through three core functions:
- We deliver evidence-based interventions in schools for mild to moderate mental health issues.
- We support Senior mental health leads in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school or college approach.
- We also provide advice to school and college staff, liaise with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education_._

**Salary**: £25,991 - £28,672 per annum
**Working Pattern**: 37 hours per week (full time), Monday to Friday 9-5

The Thought-Full, Mental Health Support Team are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic person with low-intensity CBT training and experience and a a genuine interest in working with children and young people who experience mental health problems.

Working within an Education setting and the Community you undertake mental health assessments and deliver a wide range of evidence informed interventions based on the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model. You will work directly with children and youngpeople of primary and secondary school age and in some cases their parents and carers. You will support, plan, and implement mental health support work to support the development and delivery of Whole School Approaches to emotional wellbeing and mental health.

You will work with integrity, openness, and awareness to others with strong interpersonal skills. You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be committed to providing a high-quality service to children.

Due to the nature of the work we provide, the role will require flexibility to travel to various schools and the ability to work from home during the current working regulations.

**Experience and Skills**

**Key Skills**:
- Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health assessment and interventions with children and young people and/or their families based on low-intensity CBT practice.
- Ability to assess risk and to record and communicate it appropriately and take necessary actions.
- Ability to deliver a range of low-intensity CBT interventions working with with a range of professionals and other adults including teachers, parents/carers, social workers and other mental health professionals in the best interests of the child.
- Ability to effectively manage a caseload, which may be sensitive, traumatic or potentially emotionally distressing.
- Ability to positively make use of clinical and peer group support supervision.
- Ability to complete and maintain data recording and paperwork appropriate to the work undertaken.
**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- Applicants must have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) or Post Graduate Certificate in Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) or Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions (LIPI).
- Relevant theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge across the specialist area.
- Evidence of delivering an effective and efficient professional service to a range of customers.
