**Overview of Role**

The purpose of the Accommodation and Wellbeing Officer role is to support people who are facing challenges in their lives and overcome them by delivering tailored support which improves emotional wellbeing, self-esteem and confidence. The post holder should support individuals who have experienced vulnerable housing in the past and enable our clients to obtain the life skills necessary to move on into more independent living. You will be supporting a range of clients that are in Lantern and/or temporary accommodation giving a continued single point of contact. As a stand-alone project this will require a great deal of initiative in establishing and maintaining the project to ensure its ongoing success in supporting our clients.

**Main Responsibilities**

To provide support services to Lantern customers so they are able to access support and services which help them acquire and maintain their tenancies.
- Supporting individuals in their recovery to find employment, undertake training, develop budgeting skills and cultivate positive social circles.
- Regular key working and support planning to ensure relevant support is provided to enable our clients to maximise their own potential and level of independence.
- Assessing and identifying clients’ needs and referring them to relevant agencies.
- Actively encouraging choice and involvement or acting as an advocate when required.
- Looking after the tenancy management of Lantern property where clients reside to ensure that they are living in good housing. This includes managing service charges and maintenance requirements.
- Providing assistance to claim and manage housing benefits and offering advice in relation to fulfilling tenancy conditions.
- Following local safeguarding procedures and to prevent, report and record any type of abuse and concern displayed by clients being supported.
- Completing all record keeping protocols as required.

**Team Practice**
- Maintain effective working relationships with other members of The Lantern team.
- Actively participate in the Project Planning & Monitoring Group.
- Actively participate in the Project Management Group.
- Liaise externally with other agencies as appropriate.

**General**
- Comply with and actively promote The Lantern’s equal opportunity policy.

**Supervision and Support**
- Supervision and support on a day-to-day basis from Line Manager.

**Education/Training Eg: degree/professional qualification**

Essential
- Good standard of written and numerical skills to GCSE or A level standard.

**Experience/Knowledge**

Essential
- You must be able to drive to our various accommodations across Dorset
- Experience of working in housing or a related field
- Proven experience of working with relevant client group
- Experience of partnership working with external organisations/agencies
- Experience of working directly with vulnerable adults and/or those at risk
- Knowledge of housing options and support services available
- Working knowledge of welfare benefits
- Knowledge of safeguarding
- Experience of providing welfare advice and support
- Experience of working in a similar role

Desirable
- A working knowledge of Homelessness legislation and Housing Register/Allocation Policy
- Knowledge of social care legislation

**Skills/Abilities**

Essential
- Previous experience in housing, social work, or a related field, particularly in working with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of housing law, tenancy agreements, and housing benefit systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients and landlords.
- Empathetic and patient approach, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
- Problem-solving abilities to address tenancy-related issues and client challenges.
- Ability to prioritise own work load to meet deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with external organisations
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail when maintaining records
- Ability to carry out work under pressure and maintain high standards of work
- Ability to work using own initiative with mínimal supervision
- Proven ability to make difficult decisions
- Flexible and adaptable in response to change
