Are you interested in the challenges and rewards of working with children who have complex physical health needs impacting on, or exacerbated by, their mental health and wellbeing? Would you like to work with the system around the young person, and their family, to facilitate their healthcare journey, maximising their physical and mental health outcomes?
We are looking for a fixed term Assistant Psychologist to join our large team of committed, enthusiastic and highly supportive professionals. This role will be closely lined to the haemoglobinopathies multidisciplinary team, caring for children and young people with haemoglobin disorders such as sickle cell disease or beta thalassaemia major.
The Health in Mind team at BWCH is a vibrant and well-respected team of clinical psychologists and a Liaison Psychiatrist, with highly valued support from Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists in Training.
The Assistant Psychologist will be involved in supporting a range of clinical activities within the team including, but not exclusively, launching a screening programme for cognitive and/or psychosocial difficulties in haemoglobinopathy patients, therapeutic group programmes for parents /carers and young people, and individual clinical interventions with patients and families.
There are many opportunities to get involved with service evalutation/audit, research, teaching/training, consultation and CPD events.
Duties will take place under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a collaboratively agreed plan and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
