Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF HAYLEA’S UNBEATABLE SPIRIT**

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where people use their optimism and talent to achieve more than anyone thought possible.

Nobody personifies this more than Haylea Navarro. Born with cerebral palsy and paralysed down one side since birth, Haylea has been gleefully proving people wrong ever since. Now a project officer, she brings faster broadband connectivity to Westminster businesses, boosting the economy for all. Throw in her gong at the 2020 London Apprenticeship Awards, and it’s clear for all to see just what can happen when you never give in.

Please view the extraordinary story of Haylea’s Unbeatable Spirit** here**.

**The Role**:
As a Principal Policy Officer you can make your own powerful contribution to the future of Westminster and our diverse neighbourhoods. Taking the lead on local spatial planning and development policies and guidance, you’ll champion new opportunities for the council to be innovative. Crucially, you’ll guide neighbourhood forums through the production of their neighbourhood plans. By giving local people a voice, you’ll help to make sure they’re at the heart of everything we do.

Leading on project delivery, you’ll coordinate information sharing, monitoring and progress reports, as well as reviewing key issues, risks and performance. We’ll also look to you to lead research, to build up expertise and grow the evidence base that underpins recommendations to senior officers and councillors on planning policies and decisions. You will also play a pivotal role in forging partnership and networks across the public and private sectors, locally and nationally.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
Together with a relevant degree or professional qualification, you’ll have either experience of, or a demonstrable aptitude for, preparing and implementing spatial planning and development policy and strategy. You will certainly demonstrate experience of influencing, advising and forging professional relationships with senior managers, communities and partner organisations. Sound knowledge of town planning issues in a local government context is vital. Equally important is the ability to inspire, motivate, coach and develop team members. Eligibility for or Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or another relevant professional institution is desirable.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to over 250,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster. Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
