**Description**:
NYU London is currently recruiting for a part-time lecturer to teach Experiential Learning, sponsored by NYU's College of Arts & Science and Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Teaching commences in the Autumn Term (Sept-Dec 2023).

**Course Description**

This course, which is required for all students undertaking an internship for credit at NYU’s study away sites, has two goals. First, it provides an opportunity for students to integrate their internship experience with relevant academic research and debates. Second, the course helps students learn and enhance professional skills—including writing, communication, and presentation skills—needed for future work experiences and academic study.

As the academic component of the internship experience, this course helps students reflect critically on their internships as a way to further their individual academic and professional goals. This includes evaluating various aspects of the internship site, such as its mission, approach, policies, and the local, regional and international contexts in which it operates. Students will be challenged to think analytically and their internship s and host organizations and to connect their internship experiences to past and present academic work. Students will be graded on the academic work produced in this course.

**Course Objectives**
- Students will be able to articulate, study, and analyze their internship site, including

its mission, structure, policies, and local, regional and international contexts in which
- it operates.- Students will explore career options and reflect upon their academic and professional

aspirations.- Students will be able to use theoretical constructs to view organizations and better

understand and evaluate the complex nature of the workplace in the U.S. and abroad.- Students will gain self-understanding, self-confidence, and interpersonal skills

regarding academic and career trajectories.- Students will complete academic assignments that encourage critical evaluation of

the internship experience to better understand their intellectual and professional
- goals.**Expectation of Hours**:
The semester is 15 weeks and this course will meet fortnightly for 2.5 hours, one week-night evening. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute “office hour” during which time, they will be available to meet with students.

**Teaching information**:
Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of pedagogical techniques. This typically includes a combination of discussion-based class sessions and lecturing mínimally when necessary, as well as the use of student activities, such as debate exercises, flipped classroom environments, and experimental simulations.

Instructors may use a variety of assignments to assess student comprehension of the course material. These may include online weekly homework, writing assignments, short student presentations, and in-class multiple-choice quizzes. Instructors may select the mix that is more appropriate to their teaching methodology.

Instructors should be prepared to teach in-person and simultaneously to be prepared for remote instruction should circumstances require it. NYU uses Zoom as its primary platform for remote instruction.

**Qualifications**:
Applicants will preferably have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and, ideally, will have 2 to 3 years of experience teaching at the university level. Experience teaching undergraduates from U.S. institutions is helpful.
