Political Assistant

Cambourne, United Kingdom South Cambridgeshire District Council Full time

**Summary**
We have an excellent new opportunity for a Political Assistant to provide research, communications and policy development advice to the members of a political group and support them in their responsibilities.
We need someone with relevant qualifications and experience of working in a political environment. You will have detailed knowledge of the political environment in South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge and Peterborough as a whole, including key policy issues. You will also need superb writing skills, including experience of drafting briefing notes, reports and speeches.
Also, working close with the Group Leader, you will provide research, communications and policy development advice to the Liberal Democrat Group. You will deal with a wide range of issues across all policy areas of our services, partnerships, projects and local and national policy, to ensure that the group is supported to operate effectively.
Strong networking skills are essential to enable you to play a central part in the effective preparation and delivery of the Liberal Democrat’s Group’s future political strategy, alongside acute political judgement, the ability to analyse data quickly, effective writing skills and good IT skills.
We know how important it is to find a job where you feel valued and have the flexibility to achieve a good work / life balance. With that in mind, we’re adopting a hybrid, flexible approach. We work in the best place for the job rather than having hard and fast rules about being in the office five days a week. As a result, this role will see you given the true flexibility to work from home and one of our offices, as required. There are many more benefits to working for us too, not least our structured pay scales, secure, generous pension and flexible hours.
From January 2023 until May 2023, we are taking part in a four-day working week trial. A four-day week is when full-time staff work one less day per week (four days instead of five) but still get paid the same salary. It is not the same as compressed hours, which is working the traditional 37-hour week over four long days. A four-day week for a full-time employee at the Council will consist of 30 hours. For part time staff, the amount of hours reduced would be calculated via a pro-rata reduction. A helpful way of explaining this arrangement is that staff will need to get 100% of their work done, in 80% of the time, for 100% of their salary. The purpose of this trial is to better support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, while still delivering an excellent service to our residents. For more information please visit our website.
For more information about this opportunity, please contact Cllr Bridget Smith (Group Leader) on 07729 836449.
Closing date: 9am Friday 17 March 2023
Interview date: Wednesday 29 March 2023

**Salary**: £32,662.00-£37,762.00 per year
