**About the role**:
We are seeking applicants who have an overall general understanding and appreciation of railway planning and management, and an understanding of the inter-relationships between strategies, plans and delivery mechanisms.

Travel will be required interstate on an ad-hoc basis (this can include short-term international travel).

**What you will be involved in**:

- Act as the planning lead on identifying rail network improvement plans to meet client expectations.
- Undertake strategic preparation and planning analysis for future rail demand in New South Wales, to identify potential solutions to provide capacity and network integration; timetable and infrastructure options, considering factors such as deliverability, acceptability, and cost.
- Manage technical analysis for network capacity studies and projects, including demand analysis, operational modelling, station capacity analysis, cost, and business case.
- Review new franchise, timetable, and infrastructure specifications to ensure that they are deliverable with acceptable levels of train performance.
- Lead in the preparation of functional requirements and high-level technical requirements for rail projects.
- Work on interstate / international projects with the possibility of travel, as well as within local project offices.

**Experience & Qualifications**:

- Significant experience in rail operations including operational and strategic business case development, design, appraisal and evaluation of rail projects.
- Extensive experience in route strategy planning roles ideally within passenger and/or freight train planning.
- Expertise in railway strategic planning with an emphasis on operational planning / modelling.
- Understanding of timetable development processes and planning tools.
- Project management skills and the ability to successfully deliver railway projects to budget and time.
- Previous experience working as a consultant is highly desirable.
