General Foreman

A regional specialist Civil Engineering Contractor which carries out a range of marine and infrastructure improvement projects across Sussex, Kent and Hampshire is looking for an experienced General Foreman to join their team.
As a Foreman with knowledge of large scale, small and medium sized civil engineering projects. You will be a strong leader with excellent people management skills. Working alongside a Site Manager you will deliver projects often working to tight deadlineswhilst managing and controlling all activities in line with the agreed programmes.
The role
- As the General Forman you will ensure that all site personnel and visitors are wearing the correct PPE in accordance with the site rules and specific risk assessments.
- All safety and environmental rules are followed.
- Carry out weekly HSE inspection checklist and create a safe working environment and maintain standards of H&S, environment and quality.
- Carry out morning briefings and promote health, safety and environment and quality culture and record achievements.
- Supervise all site operatives, dealing with performance and training needs. Ensuring workforce conduct, site tidiness, safeguards the public image of our business.
- Deliver toolbox talks in line with company briefings and site needs to all personnel.
- The General Foreman will also supervise the workmanship and quality of the work.
- Manage timekeeping and productivity to maximize the efficient use of plant and resources.
- Ensure the operators complete daily plant inspection sheets and are returned weekly to Head Office.
- Complete a site daily diary and complete allocation sheets.
- Complete plant requisition and ensure hired plant & equipment are received and returned in good condition.
- Off hiring all non-essential plant, tools and sub-contractors as soon as requirement is over.
- Manage the use of materials on site including; ensure delivery tickets are being checked, signed and collated, proper storage and waste minimization incl. waste segregation for disposal.
- Raise any design and buildability concerns to the attention of engineer/manager.
- Taking responsibility for site security, boundary fences, traffic management and the like.
- Liaising with site manager regarding programme, resources, temporary work’s needs, material supply.
- Provide input into method statements and risk assessments.
- Ensure that sites are left in a clean and tidy state on completion.
Experience/Qualifications required
Skills & Knowledge
- Numeracy & literacy skills
- Up to date knowledge of job-related health & safety
- Managing people and good communicator
- Ability to understand construction drawings and programmes
- Able to work at high concentration levels ensuring "right first time"
- Team player
- Can prioritise with good time management
Experience Required
Proven experience of working within the civil engineering sector at a supervisory level.
Training
- Full driving license
- Supervisor CSCS card
- Site Safety Plus - SSSTS certificate or SMSTS certificate
- First Aid at Work Certificate
- Fire Warden
- CPCS Lift Supervisor (desirable)
