Lead Sports and Exercise Therapist

General To assist in the organisation and delivery of lifestyle and condition management activity classes To promote lifestyle change and health benefits of activity both within service and at organised events related to service promotion To assist in the maintenance of departmental records. To be responsible for own and Sport and Exercise Teams records of treatments performed and to collect statistics, as required. To coordinate probation, supervision and appraisal to Sports and Exercise local cohort To be solely responsible for the scheduling of the Sports and Exercise local cohort ensuring there is suitable cover for annual leave & sickness. To communicate with the operational team when issues arise.
To run shockwave clinics as a treatment option for patients deemed suitable by Physiotherapist. To attend departmental meetings as required. To help with reception and clerical duties as identified in each clinical area. To ensure that the department environment is maintained as required at all times including equipment storage, mobility aid requirements and cleanliness of clinical areas as identified.

Communication and Relationship Skills To communicate rehabilitation related information effectively with patients and carers, tact, and reassurance will be required. Informed consent must be gained prior to treatment. There is a requirement to maintain appropriate and meaningful treatment documentation in accordance with organisation and professional guidelines.
Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident. These will include cognitive impairment, altered perception as well as physical impairments related to condition or age. Appropriate solutions to address the issues should be explored. Support with difficult communication issues will be available from clinical staff.
Analytical and Judgement Skills Analysis and judgement will be involved in evaluating the patients response to treatment. Future treatment planning will be based on clients response to activity and good observation skills are important, analysis and treatment planning will be directed by qualified staff. There will also be a responsibility to observe any deterioration or unexpected change in the clients condition and report this back to qualified staff in a timely and appropriate manner. The post holder will have awareness of their own capability and capacity and the limitations of their role.
This may include advising others that they do not have the necessary skills or training to undertake a delegated task. Planning and Organisational Skills To plan and organise cover for the Sports and Exercise local cohort -considering patient availability and need of qualified therapy staff. To work with senior team in organising sSports and Eexercise team rotas while taking into consideration patient and staff factors. To be an active member as appropriate of any in-service training programme by attendance and presentation at staff meetings, tutorials, and training sessions.
Physical skills Ability to demonstrate activities including exercises, walking stairs,gait re-education, use of equipment and walking aids. Responsibility for Patient Care To take responsibility for delegated client activities and safety. To evaluate the patients understanding in order to gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment. Responsibility for Policy/Service development To contribute to discussions regarding service development, quality initiatives and clinical service practices.
To provide support and guidance to Junior Sports and Exercise Therapists in collaboration with senior clinical and operation team Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources To be responsible for ensuring the effective selection and safe use of equipment and aids. Will check mobility and other equipment for safety and signs of deterioration and where appropriate take responsibility for arranging replacement equipment. To monitor stock and order supplies. Responsibility for Human Resources To demonstrate own activities to other staff students and visitors may provide practical training to other less experienced staff.
Responsibility for Information Resources To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation, in line with legal and service requirements. To contribute to the collection of business related information in order to inform service development and priorities. To take responsibility for storage and preparation of any relevant patient related information. Responsibility for Research and Development To contribute to relevant service, professional or trust wide audits and research projects within appropriate clinical services.
