We all know there is a national shortage of sonographers and the only way to tackle this is to train more, quality, sonographers. This post will be the vital link between LTHTR and UoC to support both direct entry students and PgD students as well as an array of qualified sonographers undertaking PgC in various specialisms eg breast/MSK.

Although your role will involve some teaching, you will also be heavily involved in the organisation, pastoral support, assessment and accessing funding for these courses.

- To be able to perform and report a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
- Manage all matters relating to students within ultrasound including coordinating rotas, identifying training needs, monitoring attendance, allocation and support of mentors, performing assessments, liasising with Higher Education Establishments.
- Coordinate CPD/audit/research activities within ultrasound.
- Be involved in post graduate recruitment
- Coordinate ultrasound training for Radiologist trainees in conjunction with Radiologist clinical educator.
- Investigate and lead on securing funding through education programmes/sources.
- Lead on new staff inductions/competencies.
- Be an active member of the ultrasound senior management team and able to represent ultrasound at directorate and Trust level where appropriate.
- Support management of staff roster, holidays and study leave to maintain workload capabilities within the department.
- Carry out staff appraisal and training development plans for designated groups.
- Lead and co-ordinate the collection of patient feedback and contribute to the development and delivery of improvement programmes as appropriate.
- Lead and coordinate the patient Information provided by ultrasound.
- Attends risk register, incident review and quality/safety meetings on behalf of ultrasound. Leads on clinical governance and quality management in ultrasound.

**Duties include, but are not limited to**:

- Lead by example through regular direct and expert practice. Undertakes clinical activity for at least 6 sessions per week. Maintain own skills and competencies to high standard in order to supervise and support all team members.
- To be able to perform and report a wide range of ultrasound examinations. Including breaking bad news to patients in difficult situations.
- To assist in writing and updating examination protocols and SOPs.
- Coordinate audit programme in ultrasound department.
- Formulate and utilise student training plans in line with the educational and clinical requirements.
- To coordinate and supervise student training and development programmes in ultrasound
- Provide opportunities for CPD within ultrasound eg organise lectures with companies and physicists.
- To maintain a training and supervision programme for ultrasound trainees
- To identify training and development needs of students.
- To communicate effectively with students and all those involved in training to ensure appropriate training plans
- To support and counsel students as necessary
- informing the Principal Sonographer and Course Leader of any matters relating to students progression and welfare
- To lead student mentors, advise and ensure their training is up to date
- Be formally trained as a student mentor and assessor
- Assess student competencies - including equipment competencies and complete relevant documentation.
- Be involved in post graduate recruitment
- Attend planning meetings at the Higher Educational establishment in order to formulate and update clinical assessment strategies
- Coordinate ultrasound training for Radiologist trainees in conjunction with Radiologist clinical educator.
- Monitor department performance for mandatory training programme.
